About This Pub

Ah, The Bobbin – it's one of those pubs in Aberdeen that you might stumble upon on King Street and think, 'This could be a fun spot for a pint or two.' From what I've gathered chatting about places like this, it's got that welcoming student vibe, especially with its range of craft beers, cocktails, and inventive grub that's surprisingly good value. I love how they do things like Wing Wednesday, where you can grab some tasty wings for next to nothing, and it's brilliant for watching the footy or rugby with a crowd. The staff can be absolute gems, upgrading drinks and being all smiles, which really makes you feel looked after. But, let's be honest, it's not all sunshine and pints – some evenings, the food might not hit the mark, with inconsistent quality or waits that drag on, and there have been tales of staff not being as friendly as you'd hope. Plus, when the sports are on, it gets so noisy you can barely hear yourself think, though it's a different story when it's quieter. Overall, if you're up for a casual night out with mates, it's worth a visit, just go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid peak times if you fancy a proper natter.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Bobbin has a fantastic selection of craft beers and cocktails, making it a top spot for anyone wanting to try something new while catching up with mates.
  • Their food menu is inventive and offers great value, with highlights like the juicy wings and chicken burgers – especially on deals like Wing Wednesday, which is an absolute bargain.
  • The staff can be really friendly and efficient, as one reviewer mentioned getting upgraded orders and cheerful service at the bar.
  • It's a buzzing place for watching live sport and socialising, with a casual vibe that's perfect for students or anyone up for a lively atmosphere.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss, with some experiences being inconsistent or disappointing, like forgotten desserts that take ages to arrive.
  • Service isn't always up to scratch – a few folks have mentioned rude or unprofessional staff, which can really put a dampener on the evening.
  • The atmosphere gets overwhelmingly loud during games, making it hard to have a proper chat, though it's quieter when it's not busy.
  • It might feel a bit empty and lack energy outside of term time, so it's not ideal if you're after a consistently vibrant spot.

Overall a disappointment. Quality of the food is inconsistent, staff were rude and overall unprofessional, and when not busy the atmosphere is nice, but when a game is on they turn the volume up so loud you can’t hear yourself think. Dessert took half an hour and was apparently forgotten. Very much the quality you would expect from a student pub, nothing more.

Popular student haunt for drinks and socialising. I visited outwith term time and it was almost empty. The staff were really nice and friendly upgrading my order due to lack of ingredients. The music was on along with am the screens showing sports. Casual pub food.

We only came here because it was close by and were pleasantly surprised by the good value wine, selection of beers and inventive food menu at reasonable prices. Top marks to Jodie for her cheerful first class service at the bar!

I’ve been to the Bobbin before and it was a decent pub. Pretty loud, college scene which is great. Previously I had fairly slow service but they’re always super busy and having worked on a restaurant myself I understand completely. However, today I went on Wing Wednesday with a group of friends and we were served 26 completely burned cauliflower wings. I can’t even imagine serving a customer burned food at my workplace and the fact that a manager put the burned food down on our table without a second thought really makes me worry about the rest of the restaurant if the culture is one where this is acceptable even to management. Again, I don’t think it’s always this bad but today I was really disappointed.

Great place to have drinks. Surprisingly the food here is amazing too!! Highly recommend the wings and chicken burgers. Their chicken are amazing and juicy. On Wednesdays they have wings for only 25p each! The service was great and fast. The staff were friendly. It's a friendly, nice, student dominated bar. Can be very busy in the weekends. The place has quite a lot of tables and chairs but will be full in the weekends. Will definitely be coming back for the wings on Wednesdays!
