About This Pub

Ah, the Scotia Bar – it's one of those places in Aberdeen that just feels right for a laid-back night out. From what I've gathered from the reviews, most folks are raving about it; the bar's got this great setup with top service that makes you feel right at home, and the locals add to that warm, welcoming vibe. It's got a unique charm that sets it apart, like a proper traditional pub that you wish there were more of around here. Plus, it's kept nice and clean, which is always a bonus when you're settling in for a chat and a few drinks. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't do any food, so if you're peckish, you might need to plan ahead or pop to another spot. And honestly, there was that one off-putting story about the door staff being a bit heavy-handed in the rain – not ideal, but it seems like an isolated incident based on the overall positive buzz. All in all, if you're after a good pint and some genuine craic, I'd say give it a go; it's got that heart that makes pub visits memorable, even with the odd rough edge.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The bar itself is top-notch with excellent service – it's always a pleasure to grab a pint and feel looked after by the staff.
  • It has a fantastic vibe and really welcoming locals, making it feel like a proper community spot in Aberdeen.
  • The atmosphere is unique and charming, like a hidden gem that you don't see enough of these days.
  • It's kept clean and fresh, which makes a big difference for a relaxed evening out.
Cons
  • They don't serve food, so if you're after a bite with your drink, you'll have to head elsewhere.
  • There have been some issues with the door staff, like one instance where someone was turned away in bad weather, which soured the experience for them.

After drinking in this bar for many years before and after games, I was absolutely disgusted at what happened today. Possibly some of the worst rain I have seen all year. One of my pals forgot his is iD and looking quite young he decided to just not drink. The bouncer then kicked him out onto the street to be absolutely soaked. The bar maybe had 10 people in it on this Sunday afternoon around 1400 hours. 6 of us then left after what happened leaving the bar near empty. Thankfully the Pittodrie bar welcomed us all in. I understand challenge 25 but to kick a young boy out in the rain from an empty bar on a Sunday afternoon is pathetic. I won’t be back. Not only was he not allowed in the bar, he wasn’t even allowed to stand in the archway outside to hide from the rain whilst we all grabbed our coats to leave.
