About This Pub

Ah, The Boathouse – it's one of those spots in Putney that really captures the essence of a classic London riverside pub, isn't it? I've got to say, the views from that terrace are just magical; you can sit back with a drink in hand and watch the world drift by on the Thames. The food's another highlight – their seafood dishes and Sunday roasts sound absolutely scrumptious, and from what I've heard, they're spot on when everything clicks. It's also brilliant for catching up with mates or hosting a little do, with a modern, comfy setup that makes you feel right at home. But, and I hate to say it, it's not all plain sailing. Some folks have had a rough time with the service, like waiting forever to be served or dealing with forgotten orders, which can really take the edge off. Then there's the odd dodgy dish or watery drink that's left a few people scratching their heads. Overall, with a decent 4.2 rating, it's got plenty going for it, but I'd suggest popping in on a quieter day to get the best of it – that way, you can enjoy the good bits without the frustrations creeping in.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful terrace perfect for watching the boats go by and soaking up that Putney vibe.
  • They've got a cracking menu with fresh seafood, mouth-watering burgers, and those traditional Sunday roasts that hit the spot after a long week.
  • It's a top spot for events or a casual get-together; the staff can be really accommodating when they're on form, making it feel welcoming and fun.
  • The decor is modern and spotless, with comfy sofas and a cosy log burner that makes it a relaxing place to unwind.
  • With a solid overall rating, it's clear that many folks have had brilliant experiences with the food and drinks selection.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit patchy, especially when it's busy – you might end up waiting ages for your order or even missing items like bread with your olives.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent; some dishes, like that Mac and Cheese, have left people disappointed, feeling more like a letdown than a treat.
  • Drinks have been described as weak and watery at times, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper pint or cocktail.
  • It gets hectic during peak hours, and that can mean things like forgetting cutlery or not prioritising your table, which puts a damper on the experience.
  • Recent reviews show a mixed bag, with some folks feeling underwhelmed overall, so it's worth checking the vibe before you head in.

We booked a table for 4.30 on a Sunday . It had obviously calmed down from a busy lunch so there wasn't many staff. We waited quite a while to be served which was okay lovely view and we weren't in a Hurry. We ordered Olives and bread - bread didn't arrive but we didn't see anyone to ask until our mains were brought over. The roasts were very nice. After that apart from our plates being taken away we weren't offered coffee and dessert . We had to go to the bar to pay the bill . I'm not sure if the amount was correct as i pointed to where we were sitting and was given an amount . I assume service was included reflecting the price. The staff we saw were friendly and the food was nice just not good service

5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We recently held a staff event at The Boathouse and had a great experience from start to finish. The venue itself is well set up, the service was excellent, and everything ran smoothly on the day. Special thanks to Jacob, who was professional, accommodating, and really helpful throughout the planning process. Rebecca was also a pleasure to deal with – efficient and responsive. The team on the day were friendly and attentive, and the food from the kitchen was genuinely excellent. We appreciated the support and flexibility and would definitely consider working with The Boathouse again in the future.

Food was horrible. Ordered a Mac and Cheese. There was No cheese. It was just pasta with thick milk, without any taste. When you tell them, their exact words was “this is how we make it”. Drinks were very weak and watery.

Had a fantastic evening with friends. I was expecting a typical pub but was surprised by the decor, all very modern and clean. The toilet was immaculate! Very relaxing with comfy sofas and a log burner. Clara was a first class waitress very accommodating and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, she explained the Rose wine to us and recommended a delicious one. Fish and chips very good. I’ll definitely be returning.

I was looking forward to having a lovely roast dinner. It was busy but that's no excuse for the poor service. Got our own menu and waited for a while to be served at the bar, even though we were seen, clearing the other tables were more important than taking our order. Food arrived without cutlery and missing items and when pointed out had a shirty response. No condiments at the table and sauces that were meant to come with the roast dinner never arrived even after I asked. Paid a lot of money and felt disappointed. Food tasted OK but my partner found a piece of string with his pork roast which shouldn't have happened. For the price I expected better.
