About This Pub

You know, I had a lovely time at The Black Horse the other day, and it's one of those pubs that really grows on you. The Indian food is spot on – fresh and full of flavour, just what you need after a long day, and the drinks are reasonably priced, which is a breath of fresh air in London. The staff are dead chatty and make you feel welcome straight away, and if you're into sports, it's brilliant with all those screens showing the latest matches and a bit of memorabilia dotted around. Plus, the beer garden is a proper suntrap when the weather's nice. On the flip side, I've heard a few folks mention that portions have shrunk a bit, and some dishes like the naans and pakoras weren't up to scratch – a bit thin or chewy, which is disappointing. The toilets and outside areas can be a touch messy too, and it's a bit awkward that the bar and restaurant are separate, so you end up paying twice. All things considered, it's a solid choice for a casual night out or catching the game, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – definitely worth popping by if you're nearby.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant, especially the Indian dishes – fresh, perfectly spiced, and a real treat if you're after something hearty.
  • Friendly staff who are always on hand and eager to serve, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • A great selection of drinks at fair prices for London, so you won't feel like you're being ripped off.
  • Lovely beer garden that's ideal for soaking up the sun in summer, adding a nice outdoor vibe to your visit.
  • Fantastic for sports fans with HD screens showing everything from football to Formula 1, and some interesting memorabilia to enjoy.
Cons
  • The portions can be a bit on the small side these days, which might leave you wanting more after your meal.
  • Some food items, like naans and pakoras, haven't hit the mark lately – they can be thin or chewy, which is a shame.
  • The male toilets and outside seating areas can get a tad grubby, so it's not always as tidy as you'd hope.
  • It's run as two separate businesses for the bar and restaurant, meaning you might have to handle payments in two places, which feels a bit fiddly.

A great find for sure. The cook is Toni who is from Nairobi, Kenya. The place is two separate business's. The bar and restaurant are owned by two different owners so you have to pay separately. The bar staff are excellent and always ready to serve. Very large selection of drinks so easy to satisfy most people. The restaurant orders are taken to the left of the bar. The food selection is excellent and the food itself is very good. If I'm honest, the seekh kebabs could do with a bit of work. The staff serving the food are OK. They are not proficient in English so struggle to understand orders. But you can muddle through so no big deal. Overall, a very good place to visit for a great meal and drinks. FYI: Going again for sure.

Portions gone down Naans v thin and small like chapatis Don't go for chicken pakoras as mine last night were dripping with old oil and each bite was just chewy with gristle.

The food is great Indian food, pints are great for London - they don't rip you off like the rest of the bars around this place. This is the reason we keep going back. The male toilet is a bit dirty and the seating outside can be a little dirty too but the food is great.

Quiet when we arrived to watch the Wales v USA match. Friendly locals and staff. Nice pub with interesting sports memorabilia on display Result could've been better, but I don't think the pub could do much about that!

Absolutely lovely, travelled from Birmingham to try this restaurant out due to many recommendations from family and friends and it does not disappoint. Food was really good, all fresh and perfectly spiced (for me personally I could've done with some lime or lemon quarters with the food but I didn't ask the staff even though I know they would've sorted it out if I asked but that's my personal preference) the staff were really friendly and made to feel really welcome, nice family orientated restaurant. Defo one on the list for coming to again. Keep up to the good hospitality and quality of food.
