About This Pub

Ah, The White Bear – it's one of those places in Hounslow that really captures the spirit of a classic pub, you know? I've heard it's got this incredible history with live music, having hosted big names like David Bowie back in the day, and they still keep things buzzing with regular gigs and open mic nights, which is just brilliant for a fun evening with friends. The food side of things is spot on too; their Indian curries are proper authentic and there's always a good deal to snag, making it a great spot for a bite alongside your pint. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, which adds to that homely feel. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – some folks have had really off days there, with complaints about a dodgy atmosphere or disruptions like the big screen not showing the footy when you'd hoped. And those late-night DJ sessions? They can get a bit too lively, especially if you're after a peaceful night. Overall, it's worth a go if you're in the area, but maybe pop in with an open mind and keep an eye on the vibe before committing to a full night.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The live music scene is brilliant, with a rich history of hosting legends like David Bowie – it's got that authentic vibe that makes for a memorable night out.
  • The food is a real highlight; their authentic Indian curries are delicious and made with fresh ingredients, plus there are great deals that won't break the bank.
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or staying for the evening.
  • It's a top spot for watching sports on the big screen, which is apparently the largest in Hounslow, perfect for catching live games with mates.
Cons
  • Some experiences can be hit or miss, with a few folks reporting pretty awful visits that leave a sour taste, like dodgy atmospheres or unexpected issues.
  • The late-night DJ sessions on Fridays and Saturdays can get overwhelmingly loud, which might keep you up if you're staying nearby or just want a quiet drink.
  • There have been complaints about things like the big screen not showing what you'd expect, such as sports games being overshadowed by other entertainment.
  • With a moderate overall rating, it's clear not every outing is a winner, and recent feedback suggests it might not always live up to the hype.

Absolutely horrendous. If anyone’s curious about what the underbelly of society looks like, give this place a go. Think of it as a crash course in human decline—with alcohol. On the day I visited, I’d just escaped another West London dive situated beside a canal, where what can only be described as a full-blown drugs carnival was kicking off in the car park. I fled that dystopia on foot, thinking I’d find solace in a charming little pub called The White Bear. Sadly, the universe had other plans. Out of the frying pan and straight into the lager-scented fire. Now, the fact I was getting death-stared by a group of lads loitering outside should’ve set off alarms. But no—I thought I’d try a bit of reverse psychology and hit them with a warm smile. Spoiler: didn’t work. Not even a twitch of humanity in return. Inside, things didn’t improve. The beer tasted a bit... off—like it knew it didn’t belong in a glass. The atmosphere was thick with that unmistakable locals-only energy. Unless you enjoy being sized up by hostile regulars and approached by the odd clearly unstable alcoholic, I strongly suggest you keep driving. Trust me: don’t make the same mistake I did. Life’s too short—and frankly, so was my pint.

Been going to this pub with friends for many years to watch football and live sports as it has the biggest screen in Hounslow. Last night we wanted to watch the live international games on the big screen. The Managers wife was listening to Indian music on the big screen ( just music I think was a radio station) when asked to put the football on she said we always watch football and refused to change the channel, The only other people in the bar were not regulars some without drinks playing pool and one guy who comes in to see the girl behind the bar but hardly buys a drink. So both my friends and myself left and went up the road to the Black Horse where we were welcomed by the staff. I will leave a food review later which is not good plus look at trip advisor to see reviews.
