About This Pub

Ah, The Black Horse – what a gem of a pub in Chorley! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a casual night out. The staff really stand out; they're so friendly and welcoming, making you feel like you're part of the gang from the moment you walk in. Whether it's grabbing a pint of their great beers or tucking into a delicious Sunday roast, the food gets rave reviews too – that Valentine's meal sounded like a winner. And if you're up for some fun, the karaoke nights add a lively buzz, plus the beer garden is apparently a proper treat on a sunny day. On the flip side, the operating hours seem a tad messy with different times floating about, so you might want to check ahead if you're planning around food service, as it isn't always on offer. All in all, it's got that classic pub charm with mostly happy vibes, but it's good to go in with realistic expectations. I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a relaxed spot to unwind with friends – just keep an eye on the details!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, always welcoming with a smile.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers and spirits, perfect for a relaxed pint after a long day.
  • The food is spot on, especially the Sunday roasts and special meals like the Valentine's dinner – proper tasty!
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere with fun entertainment like karaoke, and that beer garden is one of the nicest I've seen.
  • Overall, it's a great place for a catch-up with mates, with plenty of positive vibes from the locals.
Cons
  • The operating hours can be a bit confusing at times, with varying times listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading out for food.
  • Not every visit might include food options, as one review mentioned needing to confirm when it's available, which could be a minor letdown if you're after a meal.

Fantastic pub, great range of beers and spirits. First visit but the landlord and landlady were very welcoming and plenty of friendly locals. One of the nicest beer gardens I've seen as well. Brilliant afternoon and already looking forward to my next visit

Had a couple of decent pints after a hard day's work. Blonde lady serving me tonight was absolutely lovely and welcoming to boot. Used to be my local but the old bloke who had it ran it into the ground. Nice to see the new management turning it round. Will definitely be back!
