About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Bird I'th Hand, it's got this charming, down-to-earth vibe that's just right for a casual night out in Urmston. It's brilliant for folks who love their sports – the multiple screens make watching the footy a real treat, and the atmosphere buzzes with that friendly energy you get in a proper community pub. They've nailed the drinks side too, with a wide range of options that cater to all tastes, and it's lovely how welcoming they are to dogs and families, especially with that beer garden for sunnier days. On the other hand, it can turn a bit chaotic when things get lively, like during big matches, and I've heard a few grumbles about things not being as spotless as they'd hope, or the food not always living up to expectations. Still, it's a solid choice if you're after a fun, no-fuss spot to meet up – just keep in mind it might not be the place for a peaceful pint every time.

Great pub in Urmston. Always has the football on with multiple screens to watch it on. The beers are nice and the atmosphere is always friendly.
We booked a meal for two on Saturday 1st March for the evening for which the lady said that was fine. When we got there the pub was exceptionally loud and rowdy, the footy was on which I don't have an issue with but there were people play fighting and kids just running around everywhere. No one was eating and there was nowhere to sit and when we said that we had a table booked the barmaid seemed surprised and said there wasn't a booking but she'd try and find a spot, unfortunately that spot was right near the guy who was playing fighting/wrestling some kids. Just way too noisy and rowdy for us to have sat comfortably.
The barmaid was lovely and apologised and offered us a free round of drinks which we accepted and then left, hungry.
Didn't have any food here, but was impressed with the service and nice friendly atmosphere. It helps that the pub is dog friendly and I got to make the acquaintance of a Canarian Mastiff called Tinto. Joy of joys; a proper dog in all his glory hanging out in the pub with his people watching the footy. (Man City were playing Leyton Orient).
Called in for a drink and bite to eat, on picking up the menu, it was all sticky and filthy so decided against eating here which is a shame as the place looks nice. It's large and spacious, with a reasonable selection of drinks on offer. Sport on the televisions, so viewing isn't an issue. All I can say is, there's room for improvement.
Returning to this pub after many years, I was filled with nostalgia and anticipation. In the past, this establishment had been a favourite haunt for drinks and meals, particularly renowned for its delicious pizzas and early morning breakfast offerings on weekends.
However, my recent visit left much to be desired, particularly in terms of the food. While I fondly recalled the delectable pizzas of the past, the reality fell short of my expectations. The selection was limited to three options (if I recall correctly): margarita, spicy, and BBQ chicken. Opting for the BBQ chicken pizza, I was disappointed to find it lacking in flavor, with the predominant taste being that of the BBQ sauce covering any other possible flavour. The chicken appeared to be pre-cooked by the supplier, diminishing the overall quality of the dish.
Similarly, my wife's order of Chicken Hunter was underwhelming, I think this could be the saddest chicken hunter I have seen in my life. As depicted in the accompanying image, the dish was far from the hearty and satisfying meal we had hoped for.
It appears that the management may have shifted their focus towards beverages rather than food, transforming the establishment into more of a sports pub than a culinary destination. Which is not bad either but while the ambiance and memories of past visits remain fondly cherished, the current dining experience leaves much to be desired. 😔
