About This Pub

Oh, The Barge Inn – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart from the moment you step in. The food is genuinely brilliant; think tasty, hearty meals made with fresh ingredients, and they've got something for everyone, whether you're tucking into a massive fish and chips or opting for one of their vegan specials. I love how they've got that huge range of gins and beers on offer – it's a drink lover's paradise, and the staff are absolute gems, always on hand to make sure you're looked after properly. Being dog-friendly adds a nice touch too; it's great to pop in with the pooch and not feel out of place. On the downside, though, parking can be a right nuisance, especially when the place is buzzing, and you might find yourself hunting for a table if you haven't booked ahead – it does fill up quickly. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with mates, but I'd say plan your visit to avoid the rush and make the most of what this little gem has to offer.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, locally sourced ingredients make for delicious dishes like sausages and mash or vegan options that really hit the mark
  • It's a proper historic pub with great character, perfect for soaking up that old-school vibe while enjoying a wide selection of beers, craft ales, and an impressive 135 gins
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel right at home
  • Dog-friendly setup is brilliant; they welcome well-behaved dogs in the bar and garden, and even provide water bowls – ideal if you're out with your four-legged mate
  • Varied menu caters to all tastes, including breakfasts from 10 am, lighter bites, and options for vegetarians and vegans, plus they have a function room for events
Cons
  • Parking can be a real pain; the car park gets packed quickly as it's in a popular area, so you might have to circle around or get patient
  • It often has lots of reserved tables, especially at lunchtimes, which means you could end up waiting or needing to book ahead to secure a spot
  • Things can get a bit noisier than you'd expect on busier days, which might spoil the cosy atmosphere if you're after a quiet pint

Nice traditional pub in Battlesbridge, I ordered my food and cappuccino at the bar but was asked if I wanted a table after ???I realised there was a lot of reserved tables lunch time after but I managed to get a sit down..cappuccino was nice and the sausage and mash was good. Decent Cumberland bangers .lots of nostalgia decorating the wall,Battlesbridge is a antique village after all..Good experience..

We didn't book, but the team managed to fit us in. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They have a vegan/vegetarian section on the menu, which, as a veggie, is great to see! Hubby ordered fish and chips (which was huge!!l), and i ordered vegan sausages and mash. Both meals were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection, and made with real passion. The pub, in general, was really clean, well decorated, and quaint.. we live in North London, but we will definitely be back very soon as it's worth the journey!

Good honest pub grub, there's something on the menu that everyone would like. There's meat free options as well so everyone can go. The only thing that is a bit of a pain is parking, there is a large carpark but you'll have to be patient as the area is a popular attraction. The server's seem to all be happy and have a good knowledge of the menu and are always on hand if you need anything. The food was well cooked and the portion size was fair. We were a party of five and we all left well fed and watered for £222! Outside there is disabled parking and wheelchair access as well as outside seating and an outside bar. This is a dog friendly pub and there is always water for your dog outside. It is advisable to book a table here as it's so popular. Overall I'll definitely be back.
