About This Pub

Ah, The Bank Tavern – what a little charmer it is, tucked away in Bristol and holding its own after all those years. I've got to say, if you're after a proper pub experience with a side of top-tier grub, this place hits the spot. Their Sunday roasts are the stuff of legends, with tender meats, crispy roasties, and all the trimmings that leave you wanting seconds – no wonder they're always booked solid. The staff are an absolute delight, making you feel like you're catching up with old mates behind the bar, and the range of local ales is spot on for a relaxed afternoon. They've got live music, quizzes, and sports on the big screen, so there's always something going on to liven things up. On the flip side, it's a snug spot, so it can get a bit heaving, especially if you're popping in without a plan, and those outdoor seats are brilliant when the sun's out, but you know how unreliable our weather can be. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for a pint and a chat, but I'd recommend getting in early or booking ahead to avoid any disappointments – trust me, it's worth the effort for a taste of what makes this pub so special.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are absolutely legendary – award-winning and packed with flavour, using top-notch local ingredients that make every bite feel special.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home; they're quick with a smile and always up for a chat, adding to that warm, welcoming vibe.
  • A fantastic selection of local and national ales, ciders, and lagers – perfect for anyone who loves a good pint in a proper independent pub.
  • Great atmosphere with live events like quizzes, music, and sports screenings; it's lively without being overwhelming, and the historic building gives it real character.
  • Tucked away in a quiet spot off the main roads, making it a peaceful escape with outside seating for when the British weather plays ball.
Cons
  • It's a small space, so it can get pretty packed, especially on busy nights or for those popular Sunday lunches – you might struggle to find a seat.
  • Sunday roasts book up super quickly, often months in advance, which means you have to plan ahead if you don't want to miss out.
  • The outside area is great, but it's at the mercy of the weather, and let's face it, British summers can be hit or miss, so indoor options might feel limited on rainy days.

Great pub. Lovely, but small interior. Great location. Izzie behind bar was a star. Friendly place. Meals very very popular. Good ales. Definitely recommend. We will return when next in Bristol.

Incredible food, lovely staff and great vibe in a little square, off the main roads so nice and quiet. Lots of cool walls and the building is traditional. Loved it, thank you!!!!!!

Booked in for Sunday lunch ( booking is essential, as there fully booked 2025) that says it all, outstanding lunch. Crab taco starter was spot on, the main event was rare topside of beef, brisket bon bon, Mrs B had the Ham hock bon bon all cooked perfectly With Yorkshire pudding, creamed leeks & seasonal veg..the gravy was another level finished off with a beautiful light lemon tart. The service and atmosphere was ideal. We will definitely be going again ... 👏👏👏

Bristol’s Most Famous Roast – Worth the Hype? ABSOLUTELY! 🔥 I finally got to try the most talked-about roast in Bristol, and wow… it did NOT disappoint! 🤯🍽️ ✅ Melt-in-your-mouth meat ✅ Rich, indulgent gravy ✅ Perfectly crispy yet fluffy roasties ✅ A dessert to die for – Pistachio Panna Cotta = next-level! 🤌 And get this – for just £1 extra, I took home a doggy roast, with proceeds going to Dogs Trust! 🐶❤️ Incredible food, legendary service – HUGE thanks to Sam & the team for making it such an unforgettable meal. If you haven’t been yet… 2025 Roast availability is full, 2026 bookings are closed, but keep your eyes peeled for cancellations AND check their ResDiary...IF cancellations happen, they automatically open up space via the ResDiary, so it's worth checking! Absolutely hands down the best roast we've ever had! We came for the Christmas menu and it did not disappoint! Beef was extremely tender, the black pudding stuffing was incredible. We can't wait to try and come back when the diary opens again! Amazing staff too!
