About This Pub

Ah, Froth & Fries, what a little find in the heart of Bristol! I have to say, from what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a relaxed evening out. The staff really go the extra mile, chatting away and helping you pick the perfect drink, like that House Party IPA or a Belgian red ale that's a dead ringer for a posh wine. It's got this cosy, welcoming feel that makes you want to linger, and the location's spot on if you're exploring the city. On the flip side, it's not cheap, so it might sting the wallet a bit, and it does get rammed pretty quickly, which could put a dampener on things if you're not prepared. All in all, though, I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're after a proper pub experience with a touch of class – just keep an eye on those opening times and maybe pop in early to snag a seat. Cheers to that!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're so friendly and knowledgeable, always ready with a great recommendation for drinks or food.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers, especially those Belgian ones, which are just spot on if you're after something a bit special.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, making it feel like a proper homely spot to unwind with mates after a long day.
  • It's in a great location in Bristol, right opposite the Clayton Hotel, so it's super convenient if you're out and about in the city.
Cons
  • It's a bit on the pricey side, so you might want to save it for when you're in the mood to splash out rather than a casual pint.
  • The place fills up quickly, which means you could end up waiting for a table or missing out if you don't plan ahead.
  • Their opening hours seem a tad limited, with only five days a week, so it's not always an option if you're looking for a spontaneous visit.

Yet another first time drinking and dining experience for us in Bristol. Located opposite the Clayton Hotel, I wish I'd been in when I stayed in the hotel previously. Welcomed warmly and given a comprehensive explanation of the drinks and food available by our server; we were soon ready to order from the extensive selection of drinks. If you're a fan of Belgian alcoholic beverages you'll be in heaven here. My 8% cherry beer was described on the drinks menu as a dessert in a glass - a wholly accurate description, it tasted like black forest gateau. We both went for the single fries option at £7 per person - you can however purchase a double portion for £12. I went for the satay topping (dry, with whole peanuts) and my partner opted for the smokey and spicy chips on the menu (paprika coated with aioli dip). The chips were of the chunky variety, and not the traditional Belgian fries you may have expected from this establishment's name. It's a little on the pricey side but so, so worth it; and I'd love to revisit on another time when we go to Bristol.

Tried the ‘House Party IPA’, delicious and fruity. Waiters/workers were really friendly and atmosphere was not too loud and very homely.

Had a lovely drink in this beautiful hidden gem! If you're into your Belgian beer, this is the place to be. Great, cosy atmosphere, fantastic selection of beers, and very friendly staff. Will be returning again soon and would highly recommend! 😁🍻

We spent one of our two nights in Bristol at this bar. We didn’t have a reservation (and I’m not even sure they take them), but we were lucky enough to get a table—just five minutes after we sat down, the place was completely full. That alone should tell you just how popular and charming this spot is. There were three of us, and between us we tried two beers and a cider. All of them were great, and the overall atmosphere was equally delightful—cozy, relaxed, and full of character. The service was exactly as it should be. Prices were also more than reasonable for the quality offered. If I find myself in Bristol again, this bar will definitely be on my list for a return visit.

A lovely Belgian pub! I didn't realise this place existed until I looked at Google maps. I tried the Duchesse de Bourgogne, a red ale Belgian beer. It was really nice, kind of like if a red wine was a beer. I'd fully recommend it! The staff were lovely, one of the guys recommended the Augustiner as his go-to which was also really good. I appreciate the way that they serve each beer in their specific unique glasses (very Belgian). I really liked the Duchesse wine glass and its engraving at the hilt. I'd love to come back to try the food! The atmosphere was vibrant but not too loud, good for a catch up with friends. I loved the William Morris inspired wallpaper and chalkboards. Very reasonably priced for imported beer in central Bristol too, and independently run by some lovely staff! It's clearly someone's passion project and the care with the choice of alcohols and decoration shows it.
