About This Pub

Ah, The Ardleigh in Hornchurch – it's one of those classic pubs that feels like a reliable go-to for a relaxed evening out, you know? From what I've gathered chatting through the reviews, the team there really knows how to make you feel at home; they're quick to sort out tables for big groups and even add a personal touch for special occasions, which is just lovely for keeping things cheerful. The Sunday lunches sound spot on, with well-cooked meals and enough space to spread out, making it ideal if you're popping in with the family or a few friends after a wander around the local parks. But, and I say this as a mate giving straight advice, it's not all perfect – a couple of folks mentioned their meals falling short, like dry pasta dishes or sides that were overcooked, and those portion sizes can be a real letdown when you're expecting a proper pub feed. Overall, it's worth swinging by for the welcoming feel and solid service, especially if you're not too fussed about every bite being flawless, but maybe keep an eye on what you order to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to make sure everyone feels welcome, like when they helped celebrate a birthday with real enthusiasm.
  • It's got a lovely, warm atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a family meal, especially with that spacious beer garden for sunnier days.
  • The food hits the spot in many ways, particularly the Sunday roasts, which folks rave about for being well-cooked and just the right amount of hearty.
  • It's a great spot for groups, with plenty of room and quick, hot service that keeps things flowing smoothly.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss on quality, like the macaroni cheese that turned out dry with no proper sauce, or burnt flatbread that went straight in the bin.
  • Portion sizes feel a tad stingy at times – think a handful of skinny fries for over £3 or a dessert with just half a scoop of ice cream, which doesn't quite live up to the price.
  • There have been a few grumbles about it not always feeling like the best value, especially when the food doesn't quite deliver as expected.

My mum came for lunch last week and was really disappointed with her food. She ordered the Macaroni Cheese but it was really dry, with no cheesy sauce, and the flatbread that came with it was too burnt to eat. She was too polite to say but I thought you would like to know as she has always liked going there in the past.

Staff were amazing in supporting me with celebrating my other half’s birthday. The manager was super nice attending to us and making sure we had everything we needed. The waitresses were lovely too even one beautiful waitress complementing the areo cake. Would 100% be back again.

Visited for sunday lunch this afternoon, 6 adults and 2 children in high chairs. We were seated at the back of the pub overlooking the garden, there was plenty of room for us and 2 buggies, the area was quiet so the children were able to move around. The Sunday dinner was well cooked and well presented, there was a good amount of meat and vegetables. The children's choices were excellent, we had one tomato pasta and one Childs chicken roast both of which were well received. The staff were both friendly and accommodating which made for a great atmosphere and the back ground music was good to. Thanks to everyone and we look forward to joining you again, perhaps we will try your curry night next.

Lovely atmosphere from moment we arrived very welcoming and friendly staff. Showed us to table as we were party of 12. Nothing too much trouble. Food came out quick and hot and all cooked to perfection. We was all asked what we think and we all said what good service we received

Although the food was good…the portion size was poor. We counted 13 skinny fries in a bowl which cost more than £3 and only a handful (as seen in the picture) as part of a burger meal for an adult! The dessert had what looked like half a scoop of ice cream on top of the brownie. It just seemed like all the portions had been cut in half. Also, we requested starters and mains come out together which didn’t happen so we ended up eating at different times. Really disappointed.
