About This Pub

Ah, Northwood in Islington – it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a casual get-together, especially if you're keen on soaking up the excitement of live sports. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the pub's got this welcoming feel right from the get-go, with staff who go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and not missing any of the action thanks to handy table service. It's got plenty of big screens showing all sorts of games, and folks have raved about the atmosphere during matches like England vs Latvia or Arsenal games – you can practically feel the energy in the air. The drinks are fairly priced, and some menu items like the pizza and chicken have got people coming back for more. But, let's keep it real, it's not all perfect; a few mates mentioned the food can be a bit hit-or-miss, with things like the fish and chips not living up to expectations – think overpriced portions that are smaller than you'd hope, or chips that's a tad too salty. That said, with an overall solid rating, it's clear this spot does a lot right for a relaxed evening out. If you're popping down to Angel, I'd say give it a go, but maybe stick to the drinks and simpler bites to avoid any disappointments – after all, it's about enjoying the game and good company, isn't it?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a brilliant spot for catching the big games with loads of big screens and lively commentary, making it perfect for sports enthusiasts.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, offering great service that really makes you feel welcome.
  • Drinks and some food options like pizza and chicken are reasonably priced and tasty, adding to a solid night out.
  • The atmosphere is warm and professional, with table service so you don't miss a moment of the action.
Cons
  • Some food items come across as overpriced and not quite up to scratch, like the fish being cool when it should be hot.
  • Portions can feel a bit small, such as with the burger, which might leave you wanting more for your money.
  • Cocktails and certain dishes didn't impress everyone, with complaints about excessive salt on chips and underwhelming presentations.
  • It might not stand out as a top choice for a fancy meal, given the mixed feelings on the overall food quality.

A Fantastic Night at Northwood Sports Bar I visited yesterday Northwood Sports Bar to watch the England vs Latvia. This venue is a hidden gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. Whether you're there for the football or just for a good night out, Northwood Sports Bar delivered last night! Now, let’s talk about the food. It was nothing short of outstanding. I highly recommend the Korean chicken wings, which were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice and crispiness. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding was an absolute delight. Rich, moist, and served with a generous helping of toffee sauce. It was the perfect way to round off the meal. Whether you fancy a pint, a cocktail, or something non-alcoholic, there’s something for everyone. I was super impressed with the choice for mocktails for non alcoholic drinkers. The staff were attentive, friendly, and always on hand to ensure we had everything we needed. A special shout-out to Emma, the manager, who went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. Her hospitality and professionalism was outstanding and it’s clear that she takes great pride in running this fantastic Bar. I’ll definitely be back for another match soon!

Great place to watch The Arsenal. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Love the table service no missing the game. All screens on for the one Arsenal game and nice and loud commentary....great experience, just a shame about the draw. See you soon.

🚇 Angel 🍺 £6.20 Amstel ❤️ Angel’s new sports pub. The Northwood Sports Pub is located on Angel Central’s first floor, sitting adjacent to Birdies indoor crazy golf in Angel, Islington. The Nearest Tube is Angel, it’s only a three minute walk to get here. Opened in September this year, this is Angel’s first purpose built sports pub and kitchen. The pub shows all Champions League and Premier League, Formula 1, Cricket, Boxing and Darts. The Northwood is part of the same group as the Greenwood in Victoria, Redwood in London Bridge, and Westwood in Shepherd's Bush. This is a spacious modern venue that has a contemporary feel. The seating is a mix of stools around poser tables, comfy booths and long banquettes. The servery extends down the length of the bar which makes it easy to get served. The main attraction are the 12 UHD screens which are strategically placed so you won’t miss the action. The pub also boasts an outdoor south facing terrace for the warmer months. The beer selection is predominantly continental lagers, Guinness and a couple of local London brews from @brixtonbrewery . I decided on a pint of Amstel, my pint was great, price point was average. The food menu was full of American comfort food options like pizza, burgers, hot dogs and wings. We ordered some Crispy Squid, Chilli Cheese Fries and we both went for Hotdogs. The food was fantastic, very tasty and left us slumped in our chairs. We visited to watch the Wales vs Argentina game during the rugby world cup. The pub was packed with an upbeat and friendly atmosphere, this turned to one of surprise as the Pumas turned over the Welsh. The punters were a mix of large and small groups from all ages, either here for the game or just to hang out. The service was excellent, the staff were pleasant and attentive. The @sport_ldn will really appeal to sports fans as it shows all major sporting events. We really enjoyed our time here, the beer was good and not overly priced. The food was tasty and was served in hearty portions, the service was also on point. If you love your sport, you’ll love it here. ℹ️ Info correct 14.10.23

Service excellent, food was overpriced didn’t impress use and we are used to Islington prices . Fish was cool and batter was hot. Burger was small. The chicken was delicious but accompanied by fries not chips in little basket! Salt was on all the chips. Sauce were lovely. Not impressed by my cocktail. We won’t be back. Went on elsewhere for dessert.
