About This Pub

Ah, The Angel – it's one of those hidden gems in Bicester that really captures the heart of a traditional Oxfordshire pub while adding its own twist. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, which is such a breath of fresh air after a long day. You're spoiled for choice with the drinks; those local real ales and craft beers are spot on, and if gins are your thing, they've got a lineup that'll keep you experimenting all evening. The cosy nooks inside with the fireplace are perfect for winter chats, and come summer, that beer garden with the courtyard is just the ticket for al fresco pints and maybe even catching up with mates over a quiz night. Plus, the Pizza Boys turning up on Wednesdays and Fridays means you can pair your drink with some tasty street food without venturing elsewhere. On the flip side, it's worth noting that they might not always stick to the opening times to the letter, so you could end up waiting a bit if you're an early bird, and while the beers are generally good, they don't always hit the mark for everyone. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the minor niggles, and you'll likely leave with a smile.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from locally brewed real ales on the hand pumps to craft beers and an extensive gin collection – perfect for a proper pint or a fancy tipple.
  • The cosy interior with a fireplace is just lovely for those chilly evenings, and the spacious beer garden with a courtyard and marquee is ideal for soaking up the sun in summer.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is great if you're out with your furry friend, and they have fun events like quiz nights and music to keep things lively.
  • The Pizza Boys street food pop-up on Wednesdays and Fridays is a real treat, adding some delicious options to your pub visit.
Cons
  • Opening times can be a bit unreliable at times, like when they weren't quite ready at the advertised hour, which might leave you hanging if you're eager for that first drink.
  • Some of the beers might just be okay rather than outstanding, so if you're a real ale purist, it could fall a tad short of expectations.

I love The Angel, it’s such a cosy welcoming pub! It hasn’t a different feel from some of the other pubs in Bicester which is nice. The staff are so friendly and there’s a great selection of drinks. It’s a HUGE bonus that The Pizza Boys serve there on Wednesdays & Fridays, giving us another reason to visit!

Traditional Cotswold exposed stone interior and low ceilings that come with a historic pub. A few ales on tap and friendly service. Has a yard behind with a pizza pop-up also on site. Allow dogs inside too which is good.

Turned up at 12:00 on a Saturday (the advertised opening time) and the door was locked, saw staff inside so knocked on door and they opened up, I guess they don't expect people to be thirsty! As a real ale drinker there were two cask beers to choose from and both from the local area. The beer was OK and around £5 per pint. The pub was clean and on the same street as other bars so a good starting point for an afternoon of drinking. Located approximately 15 minutes walk to Bicester village railway station.

Good pub, lovely staff and amazing pizza. Pretty good all round. Decent town pub, wish we lived nearer. Can’t emphasise how nice the staff were.
