About This Pub
Ah, The Amber Rooms – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon haunts that you can always count on for a solid night out or a cheeky lunch in Loughborough. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks really rave about the bargains; you're talking meals that are both hearty and easy on the wallet, like a banging breakfast or fish and chips that leave you smiling. The app makes ordering a breeze, and that unlimited coffee refill is just genius for whiling away an afternoon with friends. Plus, with seating inside and out, it's versatile for whatever mood you're in. On the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard a few tales of discount dramas, where you end up paying full whack when you shouldn't, which can put a dampener on things. And let's be honest, it does get mobbed at times, so if you're after a peaceful spot, you might have to pick your moment. Overall, it's a gem for value seekers, but keep those expectations in check for a balanced experience – I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with your eyes open.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's a cracking spot for budget-friendly meals and drinks – you get a lot for your money, like that delicious fish and chips for just over a tenner.
-
The service is spot on, especially with the app; orders come through lightning fast, even when the place is buzzing.
-
Unlimited refills on coffee are a real treat – ideal for settling in with mates for a good natter over a cuppa.
-
Loads of seating options, including nice outside areas at the front and back, perfect for a sunny day in Loughborough.
-
The food's generally top-notch; think hot, tasty breakfasts and quick meals that hit the spot every time.
Cons
-
Sometimes there are hiccups with discounts, like not getting the lunchtime deal even when you've paid, which can leave you a bit miffed.
-
It can get absolutely packed, especially on busy nights or events, making it feel a tad overwhelming if you're after a quiet pint.
-
A few reviews mention it's the only Wetherspoon left in the area, which might mean it's not as varied as you'd hope compared to other spots.

We frequently visit Amber Rooms for meals and drinks at least twice a week. Last Thursday we dropped in for lunch to avail of the lunchtime discount. We ordered our meals and drinks, the receipt recorded the order and payment at 14.02. but we were charged the full price, not the lunchtime discount. When we queried this with the manageress she said the order was placed before 2pm and refused to consider our argument. She refunded our money and refused to further serve us. This attitude even surprised fellow onlooking customers. So we left, leaving our drinks on our table.
Is this how customers are being treated now? Or was there another reason for her attitude?
I have been a faithful customer and an advocate for Wetherspoons for many , many years, and have been very happy and satisfied with the service. Never have I been treated like this ever before. The manageress was just abrupt and rude.
Large spoons like most are.
Toilets upstairs with disabled toilets downstairs.
Fast table service when ordering via the app.
Outside seating to the front and rear of the pub.
Unlimited Refills on Coffee What's not to Love?
A very nice breakfast on New Year's Day morning! The food arrived quickly and everything was hot and delicious. The refillable coffee was excellent.
Really good Spoon's this. I visited on a Friday night while the fare was on and it was rammed so I ordered on the App. Large chilled Pinot Grigio arrived very quickly shortly followed by my fish and chips. £12.51 all in. Absolute bargain. It was delicious. Brilliant service despite how busy those poor staff were. Thank you 👍
We visited The Amber Rooms in December 2023. It’s the only remaining Wetherspoon in Loughborough (technically it’s a Lloyd’s No. 1 Bar!) and it’s a reasonably modern looking pub, clad in metal on the outside. Inside it’s large and spread across two floors, the upstairs wraparound mezzanine having its own bar. Being in a student town it’s a popular venue, though there is a cosier and quieter corner to the rear of the pub on the ground floor. To the rear is a wonderfully pleasant little beer garden, sheltered on all sides and covered somewhat to make it a cosy seating area. The toilets are upstairs and continue the pub’s modern, metal theme, although we found the women’s to be much worse than the men’s.
