About This Pub
So, I've been thinking about The Alexandra in Penge, and it's got this real charm as a local spot where you can grab a pint, sip on a cocktail, and dive into some seriously varied food options – we're talking fresh sushi, hearty pizzas, and burgers that go down a treat. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really lifts the atmosphere. It's clear from the rave reviews that most people have a brilliant time here, with that solid 4.5 rating speaking volumes. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've heard tales of drinks that taste more like flavoured water than the strong numbers you'd hope for, and some meals turning up cold or on the skimpy side, especially after a wait that can drag on. Still, if you're after a casual night out without the fuss, I'd say it's worth popping in; just keep in mind it might not be flawless every visit, and maybe skip it if you're in a rush. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts looking for a balanced mix of fun and flavour.

High overall ratings show it's generally a reliable choice for good food and drinks in a welcoming setting.
Cons
-
Some drinks can be a bit off, like watered-down cocktails that don't quite deliver the punch you'd expect.
-
Food might arrive cold or in small portions, which can be disappointing given the prices.
-
Occasional long waits for meals, even when the place isn't packed, which puts a damper on things.
-
Music choices can feel a tad outdated, like that old Tom Jones stuff, and might not suit everyone's taste.

Ordered food for family and a negroni while waiting- it was 99% water - anyone who drinks negronis knows they are STRONG- this was flavoured water. The food was cold, mediocre and small portions for a lot of money. Our friends had to send theirs back as pizza had been under the lights for ten mins, and the other food was stone cold. They missed one of our dishes off the order. Watered down drinks, poor/cold food, bad service yet still top end of pub prices. Felt completely ripped off.
If you’re looking for a place that serves a great variety of food, from fresh sushi to delicious pizza, this bar is a must-visit! The menu has something for everyone, and the quality is top-notch. The sushi is incredibly fresh, and the pizza is full of flavor.
What makes this spot even better is the service. Vasile is an absolute gem—friendly, committed, and always ensuring that guests have a great experience. His warm personality adds to the welcoming atmosphere of the place. Highly recommended!
So popped into for eats on a friday night, Pub half empty .
Service was good and prompt . Spag bowl was in a stone bowl which was cold , which also didn't help the warm paste, i do hate cold/warm food, to me must be oven hot hot hot .
Hated the 50 year old Tom Jones music , I didn't come out to listen to my dads LP collection. Crowd was 30s/40s, so play 90s rock.
Low Alch Lager £4.50 a bottle ! Why ?
Not sure when or if I Shall return.
We visited as a family of four on a Friday evening at around 6.45pm. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The bar was busy with diners as was the restaurant section under the arches. We did have to wait almost an hour for our food, but when it arrived it was well worth the wait. The burgers were incredible and the sushi was fresh and good value. The staff apologised for the wait and explained that we had ordered our food at the same time as a large group so the kitchen was running a bit behind. Would definitely go back again.
A few months back we had Sunday lunch at the Alexandra pub in Penge and were impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly service. We were planning a birthday garden party for 60-70 people in July and inquired whether The Alexandra did outside catering. Being fans of Brazilian food and caipirinhas we asked for a quote for our event. The price was acceptable, a menu and other parameters were agreed and the team duly arrived at our garden complete with tent, serving tables, bbq , staff and lots of smiles. Our guests loved the food and the friendliness of the staff who coped with a stream of guests coming and going as well as the inconvenience of a random hail storm (in July) and the distraction of a Euros quarter-final match. Pack down, cleaning and washing up was managed efficiently and on time leaving us with a tidy garden and only happy memories and lingering aromas from our very successful party.
