About This Pub

Ah, The Alderman – it's one of those classic estate pubs that you stumble upon and think, 'This could be a hidden gem.' From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that warm, community vibe where the staff and regulars make you feel like part of the gang right away. I love how they've kept it traditional with a good mix of keg beers and a real ale on offer, and the pool table adds a fun element for when you're in the mood for a game. Plus, the prices are fair, so you won't break the bank just for a quick drink or two outside on a sunny day. On the flip side, though, there's that one review about an unpleasant altercation, which is a bit of a downer and makes me advise keeping an eye out for any dodgy situations. There's also some talk of people hiding behind anonymous comments to stir things up, which isn't ideal and could put a damper on the experience. All in all, it's a solid spot for a laid-back night out if you're local, but I'd say it's worth going in with your wits about you to enjoy the best bits without the surprises. If you're a fan of no-fuss pubs, give it a try – just remember, every place has its ups and downs!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on for a proper local pub, with friendly staff and regulars that make you feel right at home, like you're catching up with old mates.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, especially for a pint or a soft drink, which is always a nice surprise when you're out for a casual evening.
  • They've got a decent selection of beers on tap, including one real ale, and there's a pool table in a separate room for a bit of fun after your round.
  • Outside seating is a great touch for when the weather's playing ball, perfect for soaking up some fresh air while you chat.
  • It's got that community spirit, with welcoming landlords and locals who add to the charm, making it a go-to spot for a relaxed get-together.
Cons
  • There was a troubling incident reported where someone had a bad experience with aggressive behaviour, which is a real shame and something to be cautious about.
  • A few reviews mention drama with anonymous comments or insults, which can sour the vibe and make you think twice about the overall crowd.
  • The place seems a bit small inside, so it might feel cramped on busier nights, limiting space for a proper chinwag.
  • With no website or online presence, it's tricky to get the latest updates or check what's on offer before heading over.
  • Some reviews are quite old, so things might have changed, but it's hard to tell without more recent feedback to go on.

I went this pub and 2 white men attacked me. One was acting like a good cope and the other as back cope. It was a clear set up. Good cope said he is upset because of England his wife left him. His wife could have left him even if he was to be is Australia or Arab country. It has nothing to do with the country but the attitude you take the relationship forward with. It was a clear case of harassment and racism. Creating offensive atmosphere by definition is harassment. I am an effective patient of bipolar disorder. So such was the treatment with a disabled person. By the law of this country I don’t see it right. I have all the rights to use the freedom of my expression provided to I by the law of this country. I am simply trying to do that.

Nice enough typical estate pub serving a reasonable selection of keg beers and one real ale. There's a decent pool table in a separate room off the main bar. The bar is small but there is outside seating too. The landlord is welcoming and the locals are friendly.

One of the most kindest ladies I have ever met is there. Her heart is open to the community, she is charismatic, welcoming, and just generally a lovely person. Whoever says any different needs to reflect upon what the true meaning of kindness is. This lovely lady does not deserved to have slanderous comments made about her. She is the heart of that community. Maria never let None dull your sparkle x

Great pub! Friendly staff and clientele! I especially like Maria Butler and Toni Ward! 😂 What I don't like is gutless muppets who hide behind anonymity to publicly insult people! How sad that you took the time to do this, but you don't have the courage to say this to our faces! I'd like to know how we're scum? We work hard, we're good to the people we care about, etc; whereas you are clearly some sort of inbred numpty! Did writing that review relieve some of the frustration you must feel at your sad existence? I hope so! Maybe next time work on your own issues instead... you clearly desperately need to get a life so that you don't feel such jealousy that it drives you to this! I pity you! Love Toni ✌️😘
