About This Pub

Ah, Deers Rest – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Romford, you know? From what I've gathered, the team there are absolute stars, always friendly and attentive, making every visit feel warm and personal, like you're catching up with pals rather than just grabbing a drink. The food's a real highlight too; they've got all the classics done right, from burgers and steaks to those nachos that folks rave about, and it's all reasonably priced so you won't break the bank. Plus, with quiz nights and a nice outdoor area for when the weather's on your side, it's brilliant for a laugh or a relaxed afternoon. On the flip side, though, the general feedback suggests it might not always hit the mark for everyone – perhaps the service can vary a bit, or it's not quite as buzzing on quieter nights. And if you're thinking of bringing the family, remember it's only until 8pm, so plan accordingly. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time, but like any pub, it's worth checking out to see if it clicks with you.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel right at home, like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • The food is spot on – think hearty pub classics, tasty burgers, sizzling steaks, and even brilliant nachos, all at a great value for an inexpensive spot.
  • There's a lovely atmosphere with quiz nights, outdoor seating for sunny days, and it's dog-friendly, perfect for popping in with your furry friend.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from beers and ciders to wines and spirits, and the outdoor area is ideal for a relaxed catch-up.
Cons
  • The overall vibe might not suit everyone, as the general rating hints at occasional inconsistencies in service or experience that aren't as top-notch as the recent reviews suggest.
  • It's family-friendly only until 8pm, which could be a bit limiting if you're planning a longer evening out with the little ones.
  • Being a bit out in Romford, it might not be the easiest spot to get to if you're not local, and some might find the pub garden a tad basic compared to flashier places.

Another great quiz night with plenty of laughs and great atmosphere for a very deserved charity that takes care of local deer and any injured animals in the vicinity which may need a vet or be humanely put down. Bit shout out to Jan who works tirelessly for the cause. Great quiz compere too with lots of banter and humour. Highly recommend.

Nice large pub with a big outdoor seating area, and grassed area to the rear. Staff friendly and attentive. Didn't give the food a rating purely because I didnt use the restaurant or dine on my visit.

Enjoyed a fabulous sunny afternoon here with my mum and daughter. Service was excellent and the ladies behind the bar were welcoming and funny. All the food was great especially the nachos and honestly had the best long island iced tea in a while. Mum loved the chocolate cake with ice cream and we had a really enjoyable afternoon. Thank you Emma, Codie and Brandon, great job guys.We will be back soon

I’ve been coming to this pub for many years and have always been pleased with the service, but tonight was exceptional. All the staff were even more welcoming and kind, especially a new employee named Emma who served me and my friends. She was incredibly kind and accommodating, making our experience truly enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back, hoping she serves us again because she was absolutely lovely and amazing, single-handedly making our night that much better.😃

The Deers Rest is my friends local pub, the team there are very friendly and go out there way to help. My friend had the burger and I had the mixed grill it was fresh and hot, good portions and good value for money. We also had a couple of bottles of vino. My friend was struggling to download the vouchers so the staff just helped and took the discount off. As I said they were so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend a visit. So come check them out. I come back regularly as they're one of the best pubs in the area.
