About This Pub

Ah, The Harold – it's one of those local spots that feels like a hidden gem in Romford, tucked away near the train station with all sorts of nearby attractions to explore afterwards. From what I've gathered from the chats online, the staff are absolute stars; they're friendly and make you feel like you're catching up with mates rather than just popping in for a pint. That beer garden is a real highlight too – imagine lounging out there on a sunny afternoon, maybe even firing up a BBQ for a get-together, though it seems they don't always make the most of it. And let's not forget the tunes; they've got great music that adds a nice buzz, especially in the warmer months when it's just brilliant for unwinding. On the flip side, it's not without its quirks – it can be a tad quiet at times, which might leave you wanting a bit more energy in the air, like when someone expected a bustling spot and found it more subdued. A few have said it's 'could be better,' and without much talk about the food, it might not be the first choice if you're after a full meal out. All in all, it's a solid pick for an affordable, laid-back evening, but if you're chasing that lively pub scene, you might want to check it out at night or pair it with a wander around the fantastic local area. I'd say give it a go; it's got that charm that grows on you, even with a few rough edges.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on a summer day, with loads of potential for parties or just chilling out.
  • It's in a brilliant spot near the train station, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and even Covent Garden just a short walk away, making it easy to combine a pint with exploring the area.
  • The music is spot on, adding a lively touch that keeps things enjoyable.
  • Prices are inexpensive, so you can enjoy a few drinks without breaking the bank, and it's open every day until late for those spontaneous evenings.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit quiet or lacking in atmosphere at times, especially during the day when it's not as buzzing as you'd hope.
  • Some folks have mentioned it's not quite what they expected, like thinking it was a busier chain pub, so it might disappoint if you're after a lively crowd.
  • There's not much buzz about the food or full experience, with a few reviews leaving it neutral, suggesting it could do with a bit more to make it stand out.
  • A couple of visitors said it 'could be better,' hinting that while it's decent, it doesn't always hit the mark for a memorable night.

Visited this pub for a couple of pints on a Thursday afternoon. I can't really comment about the atmosphere or food so leaving as a 3 star for now. They have a pretty nice big beer garden with loads of potential. Not sure if they use the BBQ area, but it would be perfect to hire for a birthday party in the future. I will go back again to try the food and update my review.

Not been to the Harold Wood area before so searched Google for a Wetherspoons in the area and The Harold (wrongly) came up . I first realised it may not be a Wetherspoons as, when we visited at 1pm on a sunny Thursday, it was virtually empty...not like any other Wetherspoons I've been to. Only had a quick drink and no food but it seemed ok. The interior of the pub looked very smart and may have recently been updated. There was also a pool table and a beer garden.
