About This Pub
You know, I had a wander into The Albert the other day, and it's got this lovely old-school feel that's just spot on for a traditional pub experience right in the heart of London. Built back in 1862, it's packed with history and character, from the decor that harks back to Victorian times to its handy spot near Buckingham Palace – ideal if you're out exploring and fancy a break. The food really impressed me; things like the burgers and roast chicken are proper tasty, and it's a great place to kick back with a pint of Green King IPA while catching the latest sports action on the big screens. The staff are generally dead friendly and quick on their feet, which adds to the warm buzz. But, fair play, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of unexpected extras on the bill that could catch you off guard, and apparently, the upstairs facilities aren't quite as reliable, so you'd be wise to stick to the downstairs ones. Plus, it can get a bit heaving with tourists and local workers, which might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're after a quiet nook. All in all, it's a solid spot for a get-together with mates, as long as you go in expecting a mix of the brilliant and the not-so-brilliant – just like any good pub should be!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic charm of The Albert is absolutely delightful; it's like stepping back in time with its beautiful decor and nods to Queen Victoria, making it a real treat for anyone who appreciates a bit of British heritage.
-
The food is spot on – think tasty burgers, roast chicken, and solid pub grub that hits the spot, especially when you're settling in for a meal with friends.
-
Service is generally warm and efficient; the staff come across as really approachable and helpful, which makes the whole experience more enjoyable.
-
It's a fantastic spot for sports fans, with big screens showing live events like the Women's Euros or rugby matches, perfect for getting together over a pint.
-
Plenty of handy facilities like being dog-friendly, family-friendly, and having WiFi, plus its prime location near Buckingham Palace makes it super convenient for a quick stop after sightseeing.
Cons
-
There have been a few grumbles about unexpected charges, like an extra £3 added without clear reasons, which can leave you feeling a bit miffed, especially if you're in a rush.
-
The upstairs toilets aren't up to par, so it's worth avoiding them and heading downstairs to save yourself any hassle.
-
Menu options can be limited for groups, such as school trips only getting ale pie and tap water, which might not suit everyone's tastes and could disappoint if you're after something more varied.
-
It gets pretty busy with office crowds and tourists, which might make it feel a tad overwhelming at peak times, so you could end up jostling for space or waiting longer for service.

It was nice until me and my friend were charged +£3 each without explanations and as we were in a hurry we needed to live and they knew it. We asked if we could be served early as we had to leave early
Otherwise: We were upstairs and it was very calm. The pub is nice. The food was great as well as the drinks. There are options for vegan and vegetarian which are great.
Busy local office pub with random lost tourists. It's beautiful looking and very historic now part of Greeneking.
Good pub grub and fast service. Dhuti was our server, and she was lovely.
The upstairs doubles as a restaurant and sports pub with big tellies to watch the game.
A beautiful pub where we visited with high school students on tour from NYC. They served us a pre-arranged meal of Ale pie with peas and chips. Unfortunately we were unable to appreciate the dish, would have preferred fish n chips or a burger. They only provide student groups a glass of tap water with the meal. Sodas are extra. It seemed everyone was happy enjoying their meals but we left hungry.

Food
Ordered: Sirloin Steak Ciabatta - Medium Rare (£10.75)
Sides: Mac and Cheese (£3.50)
Atmosphere - Ambient due to sports and tourism culture. Cosy and warm for the indulgence of food. Decor and paintings of Victoria & Albert give the aesthetics of 18th century England with modernised features.
Service - Service time for the mac & cheese was 20-25 minutes. Service time for the Sirloin Steak Ciabatta was 10-15 minutes. Staff on the upper floor of the establishment were keen and attentive but lacked smiling and giving customers a cosy approach. However, one staff member was very empathetic towards customers and very attentive when making sure things were in order. However, another staff member did not emphasize the correct order for the Sirloin Steak Ciabatta to be medium rare.
Food - Sirloin Steak Ciabatta - Was well done instead of medium rare, but overall, it did not make the dish appetising due to not being medium rare.
Mac & Cheese - Rocket salad was beautiful with a bit of black pepper. Mac & Cheese was a bit sludgy but overall tasted satisfactory compared to other Mac and cheeses in the area. This mac and cheese was edible and worth the £.
I would definitely recommend The Albert for consumption and aesthetics such as Live sports, Food & Drinks.
Really nice burgers, roast chicken and fantastic Green King Ipa beer. Staff really nice. 100% recommend providing you never use the upstairs toilets !!! Always use the downstairs toilets. Trust me. . . Please. . .
