The Abingdon in Kensington

Ah, The Abingdon – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in the heart of London. I've got to say, from what I've seen, it's spot on for anyone after a bite and a bevvy without the corporate feel; it's been in the same family since 1998, so there's this genuine community spirit that makes you feel right at home. The food's a highlight – simple, seasonal dishes with rich flavours, like their legendary sticky toffee pudding or a well-made burger, and they've got a brilliant wine list to pair it all with. The staff are brilliant too, always on hand with a smile and spot-on recommendations, which really adds to the cosy atmosphere with its elegant booths and eclectic art. On the flip side, it does get busy, so you might have to plan ahead to snag a spot, and if you're sitting outside, watch out for any street noise that could spoil the mood a tad. Prices are reasonable for what you get, but it's not the cheapest spot if you're just after a quick, budget pint.
