About This Pub

Ah, the Tabard – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs in Rotherham that just feels like a second home, you know? I've heard from mates that the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, remembering your usual order and creating that warm, chatty atmosphere that's perfect for catching up over a pint or tucking into some tasty grub like their burgers or the Sunday carvery. The beer garden is a real gem on a nice day, and it's brilliant that they've got options for families and even dogs, making it versatile for all sorts of get-togethers. On the flip side, though, it's not all roses; there have been times when service drags on, with orders getting muddled or taking forever, and a few folks have mentioned the food not quite living up to expectations, like chewy beef that puts a downer on the meal. Still, with its affordable prices and that overall friendly feel, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with an open mind and maybe avoid peak times to dodge any potential frustrations. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed night out, balancing the good times with a bit of room for improvement.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and remember your face, making you feel right at home every time you pop in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, lagers, and wines, plus family-friendly options like a kids' menu and a lovely beer garden for sunny days.
  • The food hits the spot, especially the burgers and Sunday carvery – plenty of folks rave about them for a proper, hearty meal.
  • It's a great spot for casual meet-ups or even getting some work done with a pint, as the atmosphere is relaxed and accommodating.
  • Being dog-friendly means you can bring your furry mate along, which is a nice touch for us animal lovers.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, like when orders get mixed up or take ages to arrive, which might put a dampener on your evening.
  • Food quality isn't always spot on – some dishes, like the beef in the carvery, have been described as tough and fatty, leaving a bit to be desired.
  • The bar team might not always be as professional as you'd hope, with reports of vaping behind the bar and a lack of care that could make things feel a tad sloppy.
  • While it's generally affordable, the occasional slip-ups in service might make you question if it's worth the wait for what you're paying.

Always have a burger when eating here and they have never disappointed! Great for daytime work as staff are accommodating with laptop use, and we end up staying for a pint afterwards as the atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly. The bar staff don't forget your face and always remember your drink, not many pubs about like this anymore!

Yesterday we visited The Tabard and we had the Sunday Carvery and although the Vegetables and the Turkey were lovely the Beef was all fat and gristle and we couldn't cut through it with a knife so we couldn't eat it. We will go back but we will avoid having the Beef.

I’ve been frequently this establishment since the 70’s! Never in all this time have I met such a friendly welcoming management team. So accommodating and true caring people. However, this establishment has been ran with many management/ manager’s in the recent past but please DO NOT come to the Tabard ….we all love expecting what you may think 🤔 is still such. Please at least try like the present management are trying to do. !!! They are not here just to make money they are here because they love what they do and they want to show you how life ‘post Covid’ can make you feel normal again!! Thank you for reading….

Absolutely diabolical this evening ordered food and others that ordered after me had got their food before I did, food wasn’t good at all not even average. The bar was literally run by kids very slow service. Staff were vaping behind the bar with absolutely no care in the world.
