About This Pub

Ah, Stein's Richmond – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its prime spot right along the River Thames, where you can sit back with a refreshing pint and soak up the views towards Richmond Hill. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely love the authentic Munich-style beer garden feel without having to hop on a plane; it's like a little slice of continental Europe in West London. The German food hits the mark for many, with delicious sausages and even some solid vegan options that keep everyone happy, and the staff are always up for a chat, making it a welcoming spot for a casual lunch or evening out with friends. On the flip side, though, it's not without its drawbacks – the prices are a bit steep for what ends up on your plate, and you might find the portions a tad skimpy or some dishes like the potato salad not quite as tasty as they'd like. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear that the good vibes and that unbeatable location often win out, so if you're up for splashing out on a scenic pint, it's definitely worth a visit, but maybe keep an eye on the bill to avoid any surprises!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning, right by the Thames with gorgeous views that make you feel like you're on holiday in West London.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of authentic German beers and wines that hit the spot, especially on a sunny day when you're chilling in the beer garden.
  • The atmosphere is spot on – think cosy lamps and little fireplaces that keep things warm even on a chilly evening, plus it's great for families or groups of mates.
  • Friendly staff who are always helpful, even when they're rushed off their feet, adding a nice touch to the whole experience.
  • Plenty of German classics on the menu, including tasty options like sausages and even vegan choices that surprise with how good they are.
Cons
  • It can get quite pricey for what you get – you're paying a premium for simple dishes like one sausage and a few potatoes, which might not feel worth it.
  • Portions are on the small side, so if you're after a hearty meal, you might leave feeling a bit short-changed.
  • Some of the food doesn't quite live up to expectations, like the cold potato salad that could do with a bit more warmth and flavour.
  • The setup is pretty basic with just trestle tables in the beer garden, which might not feel as polished as you'd hope for the prices they're charging.

Lovely setting next to the river. If this place was just a riverside bar it would get a better review as the beer and wine was very good. However very expensive for what is trestle tables in a beer garden. The food ranged from ok (for 18-20 £ you get one sausage and some potatoes and about a leaf of lettuce. Simply poor value. ) To inedible. Stay away from the vegetarian sausage. I tasted my partners and I spat it out. I can't believe they would serve what tasted like cardboard. Came with badly boiled potatoes and awful sauerkraut. The schnitzel was average (i could have cooked one much better) but at.24£ well let's just say value for money wasn't this places strong point. Go for a v good German stein of beer by the river on a nice day) and buy whatever the cheapest thing on the menu is and feed it to the gulls (as you need to order food in order to drink)

Really good spot for the everything meal with friends! They offer variety of German classics like sausages and schnitzel. All the sausages were really delicious (sentences that I never thought I would say) but pork schnitzel was not so great, also it came with cold potato salad, please change that from menu, all the tables had that salad left in their plates. Staff were really friendly and helpful, they checked on us just the right amount of times. Ohh, something is wrong with their app so you will have to order with the waitress...

SO GOOD! Even an incredible vegan sausage option (so tasty!). Atmosphere so nice, even on a chilly evening the lamps and little fireplaces warm you up just right!

We stumbled upon Stein’s on an unusually sunny day in January, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch. The casual, no-fuss setup was exactly what we were looking for. While the servers were incredibly busy, they were also helpful and friendly. Don’t be misled by their deadpan expressions! They were, in fact, wonderfully accommodating. The crisp, refreshing beer paired beautifully with our generous sharing platter of assorted German sausages, each packed with flavor. It was a simple yet satisfying meal, and although not the cheapest, the quality was superb so without a doubt we’ll be coming back for more.

Lovely spot by the water for a pint and nosh. Flavorful beer garden places with refreshing pints of cold lager. Easy crowd under the old giant tree; playground in the back. Polite, helpful servers. Nothing better on a sunny day with the light bouncing off the river as you sit for a laugh.
