About This Pub
Ah, let me share a bit about the Stag & Pheasant – it's this delightful old village pub that's earned a solid 4.5-star rating, and from the reviews, you can tell it's got that timeless British charm going for it. Picture yourself stepping into a neat thatched building where the atmosphere is all about friendly hellos and a good old blether; it's just the ticket for a sunny walk ending in a pint with mates. The drinks are a real highlight, with a great range of ales and beers that keep things interesting, and even without food on the menu anymore, the simple snacks like crisps do the job in a pinch. Weekends seem to bring out the best in the place, with it getting nicely busy and full of laughs, which is always a plus for a casual hangout. On the downside, it's a pity they've dropped the food service, as that used to be a big draw, and there's a nagging worry from some reviews that the pub might not be around forever, which would be a real loss for the community. All things considered, if you're in the area and fancy a straightforward, welcoming spot for drinks and a chat, it's worth popping in – just manage your expectations around the eats and maybe plan ahead.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly – it's like walking into a cosy chat with old mates, perfect for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.
-
They've got a cracking selection of ales and beers on tap, including great options like Bass, and being a free house means they pick the best for you.
-
It's a proper traditional village pub with a neat, clean feel, especially in that charming thatched building, making it a lovely spot for a catch-up.
-
Even without a full menu, you can still grab simple snacks like crisps and pork scratchings, which hit the spot if you're just after a quick bite.
-
It's often buzzing on weekends, with a lively crowd that's up for a good laugh, adding to that community vibe.
Cons
-
They've stopped serving proper food now, which is a bit of a letdown if you're hoping for a hearty meal to go with your pint.
-
There's some concern that the pub might not stick around much longer, as a few folks have mentioned it could be struggling, which is a shame for such a nice spot.
-
The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent or limited in places, so you might want to double-check before heading out, especially midweek.
-
With no website or online presence to speak of, it's not the easiest place to get the latest info or updates from afar.

We were out for a sunny Sunday walk and saw the pub was open.
There were hellos from a few people and I think there were between 10-12
in there. They were having a laugh and a good blether which was good to hear. This pub does not do food but we had crisps, pork scratchings and a mars bar.
Nice clean toilets and a wee place to sit outside the back as well.
We will go back.
Lovely traditional village pub offering good food and good choice of ales and beers.
Friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Stopped doing food now.
Still a very nice village pub but I'm concerned it may not survive much longer.
Nice and busy place, specially when you walk in on weekends. Good drinks to choose and serve hot food. Table service when you ask. Nice place for your weekend. Good for hanging out with friends.
Nice old fashioned but very neat old thatched village pub. Great Bass on tap, and it's a free house - so you get what the owners want. Food is simple and well prepared.....our walking group of 9 sent back 9 clean plates !
Amazing pub! Very friendly atmosphere, and the managers are really welcoming. Can't wait to visit again!
