About This Pub

Ah, St. Matthew’s Hall, that trusty Wetherspoon spot in Walsall – it's one of those places that just feels reliably solid for a casual get-together. I have to say, the food really shines; whether it's a full English breakfast or a quick pint of something smooth like Stout Brummie, it's fresh, well-priced, and hits the spot every time. The staff are an absolute gem, always on hand with a smile and speedy service that makes the whole experience feel effortless. Plus, being in a historic Grade II listed building adds a nice touch of charm, with loads of space to spread out and enjoy a chat or soak up the atmosphere outside. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides – things can get a tad noisy as the night wears on, which might put you off if you're hoping for a peaceful evening. And let's be honest, the cleanliness isn't always top-notch; I've heard a few grumbles about the accessible toilet being in a state, and those stairs to the loos are a bit of a hazard after one too many. All in all, it's a great shout for value and vibes if you're popping into Walsall, but maybe keep an eye out for those little rough edges to manage your expectations. I'd still recommend giving it a go – it's got that warm, unpretentious feel that makes it a favourite for a laid-back night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is spot on – fresh, tasty, and especially great for a hearty breakfast that won't break the bank.
  • Service is always quick and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's in a historic building with plenty of space inside and nice seating areas outside, perfect for a relaxed pint.
  • Prices are dead reasonable, just what you'd expect from a Wetherspoon – keeps you coming back for more.
  • The atmosphere is generally welcoming and spacious, with good coffee and drinks on offer.
Cons
  • Cleanliness can be a bit hit or miss, especially in some areas like the accessible toilet, which isn't always up to scratch.
  • It gets quite loud later in the evening, which might spoil the vibe if you're after a quiet chat.
  • The stairs to the toilets are a bit dodgy, particularly after a few drinks, so watch your step.

Food was great and fresh, service was quick and friendly. Cleanliness wasn't amazing but it is a busy pub, it got quite loud late in the evening but it wasn't always that way. Stairs to the toilets are dodgy especially after a few pints and the accessible toilet was a bombsight, unfortunately due to the people abusing it's location close to the bar.

Always here for a breakfast. Price is decent of course, keeps me coming back. Food quality is great, coffee machine always works. Place is spacious, clean and quiet. Nothing I can complain about, please keep up the work team!🫶🏻

After going into Walsall for some reason I decided I fancied a quick pint and popped into this place and ordered a pint of Stout Brummie. A nice smooth beer. I didn't order any food but Weatherspoons are known for good food. Highly Recommend

I have to try new places for my traditional behaviour to get English breakfast 🍳 and this time I have changed my traditional place from oldbury to Walsall. Standard of quality of English breakfast doesn’t change much. Well we all know is the pend of chefs. The recipe can slightly change the taste. First impressions I have when I walked in was. WOOOOOOW.

A nice pub situated in a historic grade II listed building. Built in 1830-1 in the Greek Doric style. It has a pleasant seating area outside and plenty of space inside. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit if in Walsall
