About This Pub

Ah, St Bernards Grange – it's one of those local pubs in Birmingham that really tries to get it right, you know? From what I've gathered, the staff are an absolute gem; they're warm, helpful, and go out of their way to make sure everyone feels at home, whether you're there for a casual catch-up or a birthday bash. It's particularly brilliant for families, with clean play areas that keep the kids entertained while you tuck into some decent pub food – think fresh ingredients and options for veggies or vegans, all at prices that won't break the bank. They've got that community spirit too, supporting local causes and offering their space for events, which makes it feel like a proper neighbourhood spot. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have mentioned the food can be hit or miss, with things like burgers turning up not quite as promised or arriving less than piping hot, which is a shame after waiting around. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep your expectations in check and maybe go for one of their daily deals to make the most of it. All in all, it's a welcoming place that could do with tightening up the kitchen side, but hey, that's pubs for you!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or hosting a special occasion.
  • It's a fantastic spot for families, with plenty of entertainment for the little ones, keeping things clean and fun while you enjoy a meal or a pint.
  • They've got a great selection of fresh, quality food including vegan and vegetarian options, and the daily offers make it brilliant value for money.
  • The pub's really involved in the community, supporting local charities and offering their function room for free – it's nice to see a place that's part of the neighbourhood.
  • It's perfect for relaxed evenings out, with tasty pub grub like sizzling skillets and burgers, and a warm atmosphere that makes you want to linger.
Cons
  • Some of the food can be a bit disappointing, like burgers that don't quite live up to expectations or meals that arrive lukewarm, which puts a damper on the experience.
  • There have been a few mix-ups with orders, such as getting the wrong sauces or info from the bar, which might leave you feeling a tad frustrated.
  • Wait times for food can drag on a bit, especially when you're hoping for a quick bite, and it doesn't always hit the mark in terms of consistency.
  • While it's generally family-friendly, not every visit seems to deliver on the promise of top-notch service and quality, based on a few recent gripes.

Gentleman at the bar was lovely. Great customer service. Food was terrible. Firstly asked the lady at the bar if the burger had burger sauce she said no that one comes with cheese sauce, I was unable to eat my burger and left not being able to return as felt guilty as already returned once as the chips had been flash fried and still hard. It was cheap Food made poorly. Outdoor area was full of rubbish and broken glass around the play area, all of the staff who we interacted with were very friendly and polite, out of 3 meals only my sons was finished.

We’ve been here a few times and always have lovely food even when it’s almost 9pm when food is almost finished for the day but friendly staff can’t do enough for you and lovely food. Can highly recommend this place 😊

Me and my partner came here with the kids and decided to get some food for us both while they played in the ballpit. We ordered 2 burgers with sides of chips and also ordered a side of onion rings to come with our food. We waited around 20 minutes which is fine however our food came it was lukewarm at best and i had upgraded my fries to the smokehouse ones as i was eating the fries there was a long hair in my food i know it couldn’t of came from me as it was basically black and was underneath the meat i hadn’t touched yet. Our onion rings still hadn’t came out at this point. I went to the desk and told the woman there was hair in my food and she completely disregarded it and told me to take my plate into the other section and tell them. Once i went into the other area i told a woman about the hair and she was telling me how it couldn’t of came from their chefs as the meat is pre-made and just warmed up so it would of came from the people who deliver the food which makes no sense as it was on top of my chips but under the meat. She took the plate off me and said she would get them to remake it i go back to our table and our onion rings still haven’t been brought out and my partner is nearly finished with her food. It’s only once i complained did the onion rings get brought around 10 minutes later and then another 10 minutes later my food was brought out again and it was just as cold as the first one when surely you’d make it better. Our waiter was lovely she said she hoped this one was better and that if there was a problem to bring it back in but from reading other reviews i thought it was a waste of time as someone sent their food back 3 times before changing it altogether. I didn’t end up eating the burger and barely the chips because if the first batch has a hair in it what’s to say the rest of them don’t. It put me off completely and as i paid £30 for the meal i expected a bit better then that no apologies were given nothing in return for it. My partner then as she got home also complained of not feeling too good and had a bad belly. I’m very disappointed and definitely will not be going there again.

Had my moms 70th birthday party here, lovely little room and staff were really accommodating, did everything they could to make the night run smoothly, the drinks kept flowing, the buffet (wish I got a photo) was really good with easily enough to go round, had a brilliant time.
