About This Pub

Ah, Sportsman's, what a cracking little find in the heart of Harlesden! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the Guinness – it's exceptional, with reviewers calling it the best outside Ireland, and at just £4.30 a pint, it's a bargain that hits the spot every time. The atmosphere is spot on too, all cosy and authentically Irish, with a pool table thrown in for some cheeky games that keep things entertaining without getting too rowdy. It's open seven days a week, typically from 11am to 11pm, so it's ideal for a casual catch-up or winding down after work. That said, it's a bit of a shame about the lack of an online presence; no website means you might have to wing it when it comes to planning your visit, and since it's not claimed on Google, it doesn't feel as put-together as some other pubs. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating from the crowd, the positives far outweigh the niggles – I'd say it's well worth a try if you're in the area, just for that pint alone!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Guinness here is absolutely spot on – many say it's the best in London, with pints that rival those straight from Ireland.
  • It has a lovely, cosy Irish atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, perfect for a relaxed evening with mates.
  • There's a pool table for a bit of fun, adding to the lively vibe without overwhelming the space.
  • Handy location near Willesden Junction tube, making it easy to pop in after a commute or explore the Harlesden area.
Cons
  • No website or online presence to speak of, so it's a tad tricky to check menus or events before heading out.
  • The business isn't claimed on Google, which might mean it's not as polished or responsive as some other spots.
  • With only a handful of recent reviews available, it could be hard to get the full picture beyond the glowing feedback.

🚇 Willesden Junction 🍺 £4.30 Guinness Sportsman’s is located in heart of Harlesden just off the High Street. The nearest Tube is Willesden Junction, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This Irish pub was converted from a retail unit and started life in 1991. This is one bar pub which is long and narrow. The decor here is oldschool traditional with lots of Irish memorabilia dotted around the walls. The servery is located on the right hand side and has a few stools gathered around it. The main bar area has a long comfy banquette with low level stools and sturdy tables. If you head towards the back of the bar you’ll find a pool table and some low level seating. The beer line up is a fairly straightforward selection of mainstream beers. When in Rome or Harlesden as the case me be, I had to try the Guinness. My pint was excellent, price point was great at just over four quid. There is no food served here but plenty of crisps and nuts if you’re peckish. I arrived just after 7pm on a warm Saturday evening in May. The pub was fairly busy with local crowd in attendance. The atmosphere was relaxed in the main bar and somewhat anxious in the pool area as Cork were playing Limerick in a close match in the the hurling. I had a brief chat with the Guv’nor who hails from Kerry before sitting down to enjoy my pint and watch a bit of footy on the telly. Being the son of Irish publicans means I do have a soft spot for an Irish pub, but without any bias visiting Sportsman’s was a proper Irish pub experience. I loved the setting, everyone was friendly and the Guinness was top notch too. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11.05.24
