About This Pub

Ah, Spinney Hill – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local spot in Northampton, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which is always a winner when you're out for a pint or a catch-up. The place is surprisingly spacious and nicely done up inside, and that beer garden is spot on for summer days or family outings – it's got room for the little ones to play while the grown-ups chat away. Prices are fair, and the food seems to be a hit, with decent pub classics that don't break the bank. Plus, it's brilliant for marking occasions like birthdays; folks have raved about how accommodating the team is there. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about portions being smaller than expected, especially on certain menus, and it can be a pain if your favourite dish isn't available that day. Service might drag a bit when it's heaving, so if you're popping in after work, it's worth bearing that in mind. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – just keep expectations realistic, and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

  • It's got a lovely, well-decorated interior that's bigger than you'd expect, with plenty of space to relax.
  • The beer garden is a real gem, perfect for families or just chilling out with mates on a sunny evening.
  • Food and drinks are reasonably priced and well-prepared, offering a solid selection of pub grub that hits the spot.
  • It's great for special occasions, like birthdays, with accommodating service and options for private areas.
Cons
  • Portions can be on the small side, especially if you're going for the seniors' menu or expecting a hearty meal.
  • Some dishes might be unavailable, which can be a bit disappointing if you're set on something specific.
  • Service can slow down when the place gets busy, so it might not be ideal if you're in a rush.

A great, tidy venue that is welcoming and bigger than you think. Well decorated inside and the garden is great for all ages - young children have room to play and adults can sit and chat. Food and drink are fair priced and well prepared. Staff are welcoming and friendly.

Selected from seniors menu, described as smaller portions they were much smaller than expected, especially the gravy and custard portions. On this visit 3 out of five mains were also simply “unavailable”. Service was very slow but the place was quite busy so something of an excuse I suppose.

Had my 60th birthday family meal the other night. The staff were extremely accommodating. We had a separate area and were able to decorate and have our cake table. The food was excellent and extremely quick. Nothing was too much trouble. Thankyou for making my birthday meal so special. Special shout out to Chelsea and the kitchen manager that cooked all of our wonderful food for us. It was beautiful. Both deserve a pay rise!!!

We loved everything about this pub/restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Although in the first instance, they really showed us (we could read on their faces), that they were not happy to have us in (as we were 6 adults and 2 kids and haven't booked), as soon as we've settled ourselves, and went to the bar to order, the lady at the till was very lovely. We enjoyed the food (which came very quick), the desserts, and a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely 5* and my warm recommendation! 💜 P.S. We are used to walking in in the pubs, comparing them with regular restaurants where you need to book in advance (excluding busy periods). Therefore, there should be a note at the entrance if this is not the case! (This is in order to avoid your staff disappointment when they see new customers in, as I worked 20 years in customer service myself, and I definitely can read someone's face when they see a big table 😀 😉).

Very nice in there since some reinvestment. Decent sized menu offering a range of good pub grub at reasonable prices. Plenty of seating inside and a lovely big beer garden to enjoy the summer evenings.
