About This Pub
Ah, the Abington – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Northampton, with its rustic exposed brick and wooden floors creating that warm, inviting space where you can kick back with friends over a pint. I've got to say, what they do well is the atmosphere and the vibe; it's spot on for watching live sport, like the Women's Euros, and they've got all sorts of facilities that make it family and dog-friendly, plus a beer garden for those sunny days. The staff are absolute stars too, always efficient and pleasant, especially if you're in a big group celebrating something special – they handle it like pros. And when the food hits the mark, like their generous Sunday roasts, it's brilliant value and hits the spot after a long walk nearby. But, on the flip side, it's not all perfect; some reviews mention meals that come out cold or tasting a bit too packet-like, which is a shame because it can really let down an otherwise nice visit. Prices are alright but can add up quickly, so you might want to plan ahead if you're on a budget. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together, but I'd suggest going for the drinks and atmosphere first, and maybe checking the food on another day to see if it's up to scratch – that way, you're in for a balanced pub experience without any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The rustic charm with exposed brick and wooden flooring really gives it that cosy, traditional pub vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
They've got cracking deals on drinks and food almost every day, plus it's a top spot for watching live sport on the big screen – perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening with mates.
-
The staff are genuinely friendly and efficient, especially when handling larger groups or special occasions, making everything run smoothly.
-
It's family and dog-friendly, with handy facilities like a beer garden, WiFi, and even a car park, so it's easy to pop in after a walk in nearby Abington Park.
-
Food can be spot on when it's good, like their hearty Sunday roasts that offer great value and leave you feeling satisfied.
Cons
-
Some folks have had disappointing experiences with the food, like cold, pre-packaged veg and mash that doesn't quite hit the mark, which can put a dampener on things.
-
Prices might feel a tad steep for what you get, such as £3 for a diet Coke, so it's worth keeping an eye on your wallet if you're planning a longer session.
-
While it's generally reliable, there are times when the food lacks that fresh, homemade touch, making it feel a bit ordinary compared to other local spots.

Me and my best mate did a bit of a bar crawl for Sunday fun day. We thought of having a drink at the pub first but ending up having drinks and a Sunday roast that was very good and big. Very good value. Good times.
For many, this will be best known either as the starting or finishing point of many a great night along on the Welly Road! Went last Saturday night (26/04/25) for my first night out up Welly since 2012! So many changes, but this place has largely stayed the same. A great pub for larger groups with plenty of space inside and a decently sized garden (relative to Welly Road). Great selection of drinks and food on offer and one of the most friendliest bar team in the town.
Very disappointed with the Sunday dinner cold packet veg. Cheap mash potatoes just add water. turkey well what can I say about that out of a packet. nothing on the plate was fresh, even the gravey was cold. No love in the food at all. For the price I could have brought it in Tesco for half the price and it would be hot. It was suppose to be a mothers day treat for my mum but she would have been happier with a McDonald's. No refund or nothing never again.
Had a family meal here to celebrate a dear departed loved one.
Staff were efficient, accommodating and very pleasant whilst dealing with our large party (20)
Pre ordering made ordering so much easier and all prior engagement was communicated quickly and easily.
Food was lovely, all came out hot and together. Our only grumble was portion sizes could have been a bit bigger for a healthy appetite.
Overall we would not only use the pub again ourselves but would recommend to others too. And to the staff, thank you for everything 😊
Great pub, friendly staff. Prices are okayish 3 pound for a diet coke. Food was good. Overall great place to go.
