About This Pub

Ah, Smugglers Tavern – it's one of those hidden gems in London that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? Tucked away in Fitzrovia, this place has been around since 1798, and you can really sense that history with all the nautical maps on the walls; it's got a warm, relaxed vibe that's ideal for sinking into a comfy chair with a pint or a rum cocktail. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the craft beers and rums are top-notch, with plenty of options to suit all tastes, and the food, especially those Daccapo pizzas, gets glowing reviews – think fresh, tasty slices that pair brilliantly with a drink. The staff sound like absolute stars, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels at home, whether it's for a quick karaoke night or a larger event upstairs. On the flip side, it's all card payments only, which might throw you if you're not prepared, and it has that straightforward, unpretentious feel that some love but others might find a tad ordinary compared to flashier spots. Still, with deals like cheap pints early on and a solid 4.3 rating from the crowd, it's clear this place does a lot right – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good value and a genuine, welcoming atmosphere, just maybe plan ahead for those quieter days.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of craft beers and rums is absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range from local and international brews, perfect for anyone wanting to try something new.
  • The food's a real winner, especially the pizzas from Daccapo; folks rave about the lunchtime deals, like a starter, pizza, and drink for under £15 – it's tasty, light, and hits the spot.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating; whether you're popping in for a quick drink or hosting a big group event, they're always up for making your visit memorable.
  • It's got that cosy, historical charm with nautical maps and a laid-back vibe, making it a great spot for a relaxed catch-up in the heart of Fitzrovia.
  • They offer brilliant deals like £5 pints and 2 for £12 margaritas until 7pm, plus options for private hire, which is ideal for parties or work dos without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It's a cashless venue, so if you're someone who prefers to pay with notes and coins, you'll have to rely on cards or contactless, which might feel a bit of a hassle.
  • The pub has a somewhat basic, no-frills feel to it, which suits those after a simple spot but might not wow you if you're expecting something more polished or upscale.
  • They only open five days a week, so if you're planning a midweek visit, you might find the doors shut, which could be disappointing for spontaneous plans.
  • Some drinks can be on the pricier side, like certain spirits at £11 a pop, so it's worth keeping an eye on the bill if you're out for a budget-friendly night.

I attended this wonderful pub for Karaoke on Friday night with work colleagues. Wow what a night!! Joel & the staff team were so accommodating & friendly. The atmosphere was fabulous AND finally, I found a pub that has a terrific organic white wine. I will be back for sure. Frances

Group of 50, hired out the upstairs for a leaving do, and everything was amazing! We pre-ordered hot nibbles and snacks, and pizzas and they were able to cater to our many intolerances in our large group. Massive thanks to Lyle and Joel who lead a superb team, all of whom are extremely friendly, happy and chatty. Joel in particular was brilliant to liaise with throughout the booking and was very personable! We could play our own music and show a photo slide on the projector too. Since Joel has taken this pub over you can really feel the heart and soul in the pub again. Also special shout out to the carbonara pizza-it was so yummy! Excellent happy hour too! The pizza’s are proper delicious and we will be using the space again in the near future I am sure! Thanks all!

A rather quaint pub near Warren Street tube. It has a somewhatt basic feel about it, which I like as it is not pretentious. They have two cask beers but I chose a double Bullit rye at £11. At ground level it is not too large but they do have exterior seating in addition to extra seating upstairs. They do sell food and have lunchtime specials (starter, pizza and drink, £14.95) in addition to happy hour specials (£5 for selected beer until 7pm). Most of the patrons appeared to be regulars and at 4pm on a Tuesday afternoon it was reasonably busy. A nice, basic pub to enjoy a few drinks.

Excellent residence of Dacappo Pizza. Had the lunchtime offer of a suppli starter, pizza & drink for £14.95. The pizza, a Margarita was really good, it was light and tasty and digested well. Service was efficient & friendly. Great lunchtime option for the area.
