About This Pub
Ah, Slug & Lettuce in Newbury – it's one of those places that really knows how to get the party started, isn't it? From what I've gathered chatting through the reviews, the staff stand out as absolute stars; they're bubbly, professional, and go out of their way to make sure you're looked after, whether it's sorting out allergies or keeping the drinks flowing during a bottomless brunch. The deals are fantastic too – think affordable cocktails and special offers that make it ideal for a cheeky midweek treat or a big celebration like a hen do. It's got that welcoming vibe with outdoor areas and family-friendly policies, which is just lovely for popping in with mates or even the dog on a quiet day. But, on the downside, there have been a couple of off moments, like when a group was turned away, which feels a bit of a shame and could leave you feeling let down. Plus, if you're mindful of what you eat, the choices might not be as extensive as you'd hope, so it's worth checking ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time in Newbury, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – the highs definitely outweigh the lows for most folks!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and attentive, making sure everyone feels right at home, as seen in those glowing reviews about their service.
-
It's packed with great offers like 2-for-1 cocktails and bottomless brunches, which make it a brilliant spot for a fun night out without spending a fortune.
-
The atmosphere is spot on for social gatherings, whether it's hen parties, birthdays, or even a casual Friday bingo session – it's all about those good vibes and celebrations.
-
They're pretty welcoming to families and dogs on most days, with facilities like a beer garden and kid-friendly options until 8pm, which adds a nice touch of inclusivity.
Cons
-
There have been a few instances where service fell short, like one group being refused entry, which could put a dampener on plans.
-
Options for dietary needs, such as gluten-free choices, seem a bit limited, so it might not suit everyone looking for more variety.
-
It can get quite busy, especially on Saturdays, which might mean it's not always the most relaxed spot, and dogs might not be welcome then.

We visited a week ago and unfortunately we were refused service. Me, my sisters, our recently engaged friend, and both our mums visited for food and drink with a booking for 7pm. After discussing what to have we went to the bar to order, we started to reel off a few mocktails and the waitress asked to see ID. Went back to the table and got our IDs out (the youngest is 24 yrs old) but unfortunately one of our party forgot her ID. No worries, we figured we’ll just order soft drinks for everyone. The waitress then informed us we would need IDs from 8pm for the whole premises… which would mean we would have to leave because it was now 7:45pm. There was absolutely no pre warning as we entered the location and we were not ID until we started to order drinks. If we had ordered soft drinks, they wouldn’t have asked for ID and therefore the whole fiasco would not have happened… so a pointless rule really? We had to vacate the premises and find somewhere else to eat for the evening with no booking. Overall, horrible customer service and no mention of needing ID to EAT DINNER at 7pm, even after being in the restaurant for 30 minutes and no one letting us know.
P.S. our friend in question who didn’t have ID was 27… we were all clearly of drinking age…
We had an absolute blast on our girls day out. Owen looked after us so well his bubbly personality and professional approach is an amazing and cocktails are fabulous.
Abbey was amazing, she dealt with allergies that I had and found something for me to eat. She was also fast on the drinks for the bottomless brunch. I’d like more gluten free options and this would be amazing. I love slug and lettuce and is always my favourite to come here 🩷
My friend and I had a great birthday bottomless brunch at S&L. Food was lovely and Jordan J could not do enough for us. Service was 10/10. Great vibes and my friends allergies were all catered for! Will definitely come again.
We had a lovely experience at Slug and Lettuce during our brunch, and a big part of that was thanks to Cassie. She was incredibly welcoming, supportive, and friendly throughout our visit. From the moment we arrived, she made sure we were comfortable and well looked after. Her cheerful attitude and attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed, and she truly enhanced our time there. Thank you, Cassie, for making our brunch so enjoyable! Highly recommend her service to anyone visiting.
