About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Sir Robert Peel – it's one of those hidden gems in Leicester that just warms your heart the second you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beer is spot on, with a cracking selection of ales that beer enthusiasts will absolutely love. The staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to that welcoming feel. I love how they've got all these little touches, like the log fire on chilly evenings or the outdoor garden for sunnier days, making it versatile no matter the weather. And don't miss the Thursday pub quiz; it's a right laugh and often turns a quick pint into a full night out. On the flip side, it's only open six days a week, so you might have to plan around that, and the food's more of a simple snack to go with your drink rather than a proper meal. Still, for an inexpensive spot that's full of character, it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – I'd say it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a relaxed, enjoyable evening without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely top-notch, with a great variety of ales that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and provide brilliant service, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got such a charming atmosphere, with cosy seating, a lovely log fire in winter, and even a garden outside for when the weather's nice.
  • They host a fantastic Thursday pub quiz, which is a brilliant way to spend an evening and often keeps you there longer than planned.
  • As an inexpensive spot, it's perfect for a casual night out without breaking the bank, and it's handy for events like football or rugby.
Cons
  • The operating hours can be a bit inconsistent or limited, with the pub only open six days a week, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit.
  • The food menu is quite simple, so if you're after a full meal, it might not quite satisfy – it's more about complementing the drinks than being the main event.
  • Being a smaller venue, it could get quite busy on popular nights, making it tricky to find a seat or enjoy a quiet chat.

An excellent pub which has such charm. We often come on an evening to have one drink, and end up staying for multiple because it’s such a nice atmosphere. The log fire in winter is just gorgeous. Especially love the Thursday pub quiz and the new owners are fantastic, such a welcoming environment!

This pub, in my opinion, is one of the few genuine gems which remain in the city. A proper pub always serving a great selection of ales with a suitable but simple food offering to complement the drinks menu. A really characterful building which I hope can be preserved amongst the faceless concrete developments around it. I only wish I lived closer and I would drink there more often.

Fantastic local pub, that’s recently been taken over by new management and they’re working wonders on the place! Absolutely chilled atmosphere inside with plenty of cosy seating, smoking area and garden outside. Lovely fireplaces that are lit during the colder months. Ample selection of beers on tap and bottles. Plus everything is an absolute bargain!
