About This Pub

Ah, Shiremoor House Farm – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a traditional British pub, tucked away in North Shields with its stunning conversion of an old farm building. I have to say, the atmosphere is just brilliant; imagine sinking into a cosy spot surrounded by exposed beams and stone walls, or stepping out to the covered terrace or beer garden on a sunny day – it's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates. The food menu shines when it's good, offering up comforting classics like fish and chips that hit the spot, and don't even get me started on that sticky toffee pudding; it's a must-try that keeps folks coming back. Plus, they've got a great lineup of cask ales and wines, and the pub quiz on Tuesdays is always a laugh, adding that extra spark to the evening. On the flip side, it's not all roses – I've heard a few tales of meals being a bit underwhelming, like pricey Sunday roasts with skimpy portions that aren't piping hot, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper feed. Service can be hit or miss too; sometimes it's spot on and attentive, but other times staff might brush off a question with a curt response, leaving you feeling a bit let down. All in all, it's a solid spot for a pint and a chat, especially if you're nearby for a day out, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to avoid any surprises – the good bits make it a gem, while the niggles keep it from being perfect.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with its beautifully converted farm building featuring exposed stone walls, beams, and a lovely beer garden that makes you feel right at home.
  • They serve up some cracking pub grub when it's on form – think hearty classics like fish and chips or that irresistible sticky toffee pudding that's become a real favourite.
  • There's a brilliant selection of guest ales and wines, plus fun events like the Tuesday pub quiz that add a bit of excitement to your visit.
  • The service can be spot on, with staff being attentive and making sure everything runs smoothly, especially for family meals or special occasions.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit inconsistent; some dishes, like Sunday lunches, have been described as disappointing with small portions and not quite warm enough.
  • Prices feel a tad steep for what you get, leaving you wondering if it's worth the extra quid when portions don't quite hit the mark.
  • Occasionally, the service falls short, with staff not always knowing the answers or seeming a bit offhand, which can put a damper on things.

Very disappointing Sunday lunch, pricey, small portion & not very warm. Served food before drinks which is unusual & when asked a member of staff a question got the reply I don't know, that's not my job! Been many times before over many years but so disappointed certainly won't be hurrying back & definitely wouldn't recommend.

Went tonight as a late Mothers Day/ Family meal to be absolutely gutted with the quality of my food. I ordered the Pork Chop with cost £18 with a side of Salad which was another £3.50. My main meal was appalling and I am in disbelief how the chef actually let it be served ..... where do I start ....... the veg mmmm what veg I got 3 tiny limp carrots which needed resuscitated, mash potato which was watery and supposed to be mustard mash no this just had a massive dollop of mustard stuck on the top and the cabbage well I got about 3 strands that were limp, the salad was again limp looked old and it was spot the tomatoes I actually got 1 half of a baby tomato.. shocking. The Pork chop mind was cooked nice but didn't have much meat on. Relayed this back to the waitress who was lovely to be told my meal would be free. Went to pay to then be told of the manager that no my meal was not free but my pudding which I had no quality issues with, doesn't make sense. I was told that I ate the majority of my meal .... no I ate the only decent thing with was the pork chop. I am absolutely appalled that management would have even asked for payment especially with how bad the meal was. Will be keeping away from here for a very long time. Can not fault my waitress.

Get.the.sticky.toffee.pudding. I’m no photographer but me and the Mrs get this almost every time we go. Always a good selection of guest ales and the pub quiz in a Tuesday night is a laugh!

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday with my family. We were seated in the restaurant area, which was very comfortable and accommodating. There were nine of us in total, and we opted for table service. I ordered the fish and chips, which was absolutely fantastic. It came with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Everyone else had Sunday dinners, and they all highly recommended them. I’ll definitely be coming back here soon.

Went here for an adult birthday meal on a Sunday. Service was lovely, pleasant, not in your face but also attentive. Orders taken quickly and drinks and food delivered without us even feeling like we were waiting. Food was very good, and nicely sized portions. Kids thoroughly enjoyed their deserts. Luke was particularly helpful and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours and a refreshing change to go out for a meal and not feel like something was missing.
