About This Pub

Ah, Saltoun Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in Aberdeen, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place has this charming, family-run feel that's been going strong since 1893, which gives it that authentic touch. The staff are absolute stars; they're friendly and efficient, making every visit feel effortless, whether you're there for a quick pint or settling in for the evening. The drinks menu is a winner too – think cracking beers and some nicely crafted cocktails that keep things interesting without overwhelming you. And let's not forget the pool table; it's become a bit of a focal point, with plenty of good-natured games and even some talented players to learn from, plus it's popular for catching the football, which adds to the fun. The beer garden is another lovely plus, especially on a clear day when you can enjoy that fresh air and a bit of calm. On the flip side, it does tend to be on the quieter side, which is brilliant if you're after a peaceful escape, but if you're in the mood for a lively night with heaps of events or a packed house, you might find it a tad underwhelming – they've got some lined up, but it's not exactly buzzing yet. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together, and while it's not perfect, the good bits far outweigh the minor niggles, making it a place I'd happily recommend for a straightforward, enjoyable pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers and handcrafted cocktails that'll satisfy any taste – perfect for a casual catch-up.
  • The pool table is a real highlight; it's always fun to challenge mates or just watch some skilled players in action.
  • There's a lovely beer garden outside, ideal for soaking up the sun on a nice day and enjoying that peaceful vibe.
  • Prices are spot on – reasonable and won't break the bank, so you can pop in for a pint without thinking twice.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit quiet at times, which is great for a relaxed chat but might not hit the spot if you're after a buzzing atmosphere.
  • Events seem a bit thin on the ground right now, with things listed as 'coming soon', so it might not always feel lively or full of entertainment options.
  • There's a slight mix-up with the mobile bar side of things, which could confuse folks expecting a straightforward pub experience.

Come to Aberdeen to work on boats but this is probably the best bar I have made my favourite from over the 24yrs I have come here, good pool table, bar staff & service very good. I like a game of pool & some not bad players here. Hope I get a game tonight. Ewan
