About This Pub

Oh, Saltwater Brig is one of those places that just warms your heart from the moment you walk in – imagine a traditional country pub with a modern twist, tucked away on the shores of Strangford Lough, where you can soak up the views from the beer garden or settle into the snug for a proper chat. The food's a standout; it's all about quality local ingredients turned into delicious, hearty dishes that leave you feeling satisfied, though it does come at a slightly premium price compared to your everyday pub fare. The team there are brilliant, always on hand with a smile and helpful advice, making you feel right at home, and they've got some great inclusive features like being wheelchair friendly. It's not without its little niggles, mind you – having to book by phone only can be a pain in this digital age – but overall, it's a fantastic spot for a relaxed lunch or evening out. If you're in the area, I'd say it's well worth a visit for the atmosphere and that top-quality grub, especially if you fancy something a bit special without straying too far from the pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, locally sourced dishes that are packed with flavour and beautifully presented, making every meal feel like a treat.
  • The staff are an absolute joy; they're so welcoming, polite, and always ready to chat or recommend something from the menu, which really adds to the homely vibe.
  • It's got that cosy, family-feel atmosphere with a relaxing beer garden offering stunning views over Strangford Lough – perfect for a chilled-out afternoon.
  • Plenty of generous portions, so you won't leave hungry, and it's wheelchair friendly with thoughtful touches like dementia training for the team.
  • The location is a gem, easy to find with ample parking, and it's steeped in history since 1765, giving it real character.
Cons
  • Prices are a tad higher than your average pub grub, so it might stretch the budget a bit if you're after something more straightforward.
  • Bookings are only available by phone, which can be a bit of a faff if you prefer to sort things online or at the last minute.

I really enjoy here nice and quiet with a fantastic menu. The price is a little more expensive than normal pub grub but you are getting better quality than your usual pub grub. Staff are very helpful in explaining everything to you and recommend something from the menu.

Wonderful lunch in this place this afternoon. Full of character and loved reading all the signs and sayings and memorabilia. Staff an absolute joy, pleasant, courteous and welcoming. Food was excellent, really flavourful and beautifully presented. Lots to choose from the menu. I'm not a vegetarian but they had loads of vegetarian options instead of just one or two. This chef and their team are brilliant! If we'd have had room for dessert we deffo would have! Thanks again to the staff for such a lovely experience, we shall be back!

Although we didn't have a reservation as had never been as just called in as driving past, the lovely staff were so helpful & managed to squeeze us in. My husband had a Sunday roast & I a chicken burger. All food was cooked to perfection and delicious. Big portions! I had half a burger left and staff offered a we to go box. Would definitely be back but would book a table 😊 Lovely atmosphere for couples and families

Wonderful food and friendly service, in a really quaint pub setting! Visited with my partner and parents, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals - generous, gastropub portions. I had the veggie combo and it was huge with a great variety of vegetarian bits! A favourite of ours for a pub lunch and look forward to visiting the next time I'm in Northern Ireland.
