About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Pub in Scunthorpe – it's one of those places that just feels like a reliable old mate, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this inviting vibe where you can settle in for some proper grub without breaking the bank. The food stands out as a real winner; folks rave about the seniors' specials and pies that hit the spot, served up with a smile from the likes of Lewis and Zane, who sound like absolute gems behind the bar. It's spot on for families or if you're out with the dog, and with all the sports action on offer, it's a cracking spot to catch the game with a pint in hand. The location's a bonus too – slap bang near the theatre and cinema, making it easy to pop in before or after. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all perfect; a couple of moans about the bathrooms being a bit grim with that sewer smell lingering, which could spoil an otherwise lovely visit. Overall, I'd say it's worth a go if you're in the area – the good bits far outweigh the niggles, and with those daily deals, you're in for a treat without spending a fortune. Just keep it in mind for a relaxed night out, and maybe plan accordingly if you're fussy about the facilities!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think hearty pies with thick gravy and great value deals, making it a brilliant choice for a satisfying meal out.
  • Friendly staff who really make you feel at home; they've got that warm, welcoming vibe that turns a quick visit into a proper chat.
  • It's dog-friendly and family-oriented, so you can pop in with the pooch or the little ones without a fuss.
  • A top spot for catching live sports on the big screen, with Sky Sports and TNT, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening.
  • Convenient location right in the heart of Scunthorpe, near the theatre, cinema, and museum, plus there's parking and a beer garden for those sunny days.
Cons
  • The bathrooms are a bit of a letdown – one person mentioned a strong sewer smell that can really put a damper on things, so it might need some sprucing up.
  • It feels a tad outdated in places, with some reports of poor maintenance that could make the overall experience less polished than you'd hope.

very old and poorly maintained. The worst part is the bathroom, if you don’t keep the door shut at all times, the entire room fills with a strong sewer smell coming from the drains. It’s disgusting and makes it Impossible to sleep or relax. You literally can’t get rid of the smell unless the bathroom door stays closed. Absolutely not worth staying in.

Popped in for dinner - absolutely lovely. Clean and spacious, friendly welcome and a great menu. Food came in a decent but proper amount of time (if it's within minutes then you know it's been microwaved, not here - genuine cooked food). The pie was delicious served with thick gravy and a choice of taters - even happy to make a substitution on the sides for my Mum. A big thank you to all. New manager Dan is off to a cracking start for sure.

Great local pub . Always the best for sports and a short walk to the football ground . Zane as always be on hands on to help and have a good laugh with the customers and locals ... Zane will be missed when he moves on to a new pub. All the best Zane.

We come weekly for a meal. The young man who manages the bar (Lewis) is always friendly and smiling. The food since the pub changed management is excellent and great value..in fact totally transformed (cheap and you get plenty) and it has a nice, comfortable atmosphere with parking. Lovely pub and hotel now. Well done everyone there. Xx
