About This Pub
Ah, the Royal Oak – it's one of those classic pubs in Manchester that really draws you in with its warm, lively atmosphere and all the little extras that make a night out memorable. I love how the staff go out of their way to be helpful and quick, whether you're grabbing a pint or settling in for some food, and the prices are spot on for what you get. It's fantastic for watching the big games or joining in on events like live music or quizzes, which give it that proper community spirit. Plus, with perks like a beer garden and being dog-friendly, it's ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect – there have been times when they've been out of stock on favourites, or when food hasn't quite lived up to expectations, like stale bread or bits that needed more time in the kitchen. Still, overall, it's a solid choice if you're in the area, as long as you go in with an open mind and maybe have a backup plan for your drink of choice. I'd say it's worth a visit for the good times it delivers, just keep an eye out for those occasional slip-ups to make the most of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are always so friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks and food that's reasonably priced and often hits the spot, especially if you're after something hearty.
-
It's a brilliant spot for catching live sports or enjoying events like the Women's Euros, with big screens and a lively atmosphere.
-
Plenty of nice touches like a beer garden, being dog-friendly, and fun amenities such as a pool table and WiFi, perfect for a relaxed hangout.
-
Regular events like live music nights, quizzes, and open mic sessions add a real community feel and keep things entertaining.
Cons
-
Sometimes they run out of popular drinks like Guinness, which can be a bit frustrating if that's what you're after.
-
There might be unexpected deposits for things like the pool table, which isn't always made clear upfront and can put a dampener on the fun.
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; I've heard tales of stale items or undercooked bits, so it's worth double-checking if you're ordering a meal.
-
Service can occasionally feel a tad abrupt, like when staff walk away mid-conversation, leaving you a bit in the lurch.

I called in a few months ago when every pub was having trouble getting guinness.
I asked the idiot behind the bar if they had any guinness in and he said we are a pub and pubs have guinness.
I explained that the 3 bars i called in first had none delivered and he walked away.
One of the regulars said he can come across bad but hes ok.
I had one then left and havent been back since.
Service was great and staff were friendly, but using the pool tables/darts came with a deposit which wasn't mentioned anywhere. Due to cues being left out, we ended up paying a deposit while another patron hadn't got theirs back leaving us to head back to the bar and explain to staff. Not sure if the other guy got their deposit back but we managed to get ours when we were done.
Will definitely be coming back but will be more aware of the deposits next time :)
The pub itself is nice and the staff are friendly however I was really disappointed by the food we received. I ordered the hot honey flatbread with halloumi, the bread was SO stale I could not even cut it. My partner ordered the vegetarian roast (some tart thing) and her peas and potatoes were not cooked properly and also her cauliflower cheese was just cauliflower floating in water with a bit of cheese sauce… 😕
Food was brilliant
Reasonably priced but good quality. Staff were friendly and I wasn't waiting at the bar for too long. Service was quick.
Definitely will be back and would recommend.
Good selection of drinks and food.
Different football games playing in different parts of the bar
Pool table in the back
Ladies bathroom was clean.
The place was warm.
Allergen wise they were brilliant
If you have an allergy I would be comfortable and confident about this place!
Absolutely love that live music is back at The Royal oak.
I only popped in for a roast and I was pleasantly surprised to find Live music playing, apparently it was an Open mic night and it is now on every week!
I also got told about the Thursday night Quiz and The Monday Night Rock n Roll Bingo which sounds fab, I will definitely be back very very soon!!!
And these Passion fruit cocktails were gorgeous 😍🍸
Highly recommend, amazing pub grub, fab atmosphere and friendly staff.
