About This Pub

Ah, the Rising Sun in Twickenham – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its friendly atmosphere and solid offerings. From what I've gathered, the staff are brilliant, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home, which really sets the tone for a great night out. The food's a winner too; folks are raving about the fish and chips and other light bites, saying they're cooked to perfection and hit the spot every time. Plus, the recent refurb has given the place a lovely, airy makeover, and the outdoor seats are perfect for families or a casual catch-up near that nearby park. On the downside, the wine's a tad expensive, so you might want to stick to the beers if you're watching the pennies. And, if you pop in on a quiz night, it can get a bit chaotic with the team stretched thin, leading to waits that might not suit everyone. All in all, it's a cracking spot for a pint and some nosh, but like any place, it's got its quirks – still, I'd say it's well worth a visit for a balanced, enjoyable experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel personal and warm, like chatting with old mates.
  • The food is a real highlight, with dishes like the cod cheeks scampi and fish and chips getting rave reviews for being spot-on and delicious.
  • After the refurbishment, the interior feels spacious and airy, creating a comfortable atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing.
  • There's lovely outdoor seating with cushions, ideal for enjoying a drink on a sunny day, and it's family-friendly with a park just across the road.
  • It's well-managed with a great location in Twickenham, and the beers are reasonably priced, adding to the overall appeal.
Cons
  • The wine can be a bit pricey, which might put a dampener on things if you're after a cheeky glass or two.
  • During busy times like quiz nights, they sometimes seem understaffed, leading to a bit of a rush and slower service that could frustrate.
  • One or two folks mentioned not expecting much from the food initially, suggesting it might not always live up to hype for everyone.

It’s Sunday 8th, June. I’ve popped in for a flat white and soda water… chatting with the nice lady behind the bar I asked for a recommendation for a light lunch? She suggested the cod cheeks scampi. I ordered her suggestions with a side of cheesy french fries. I wasn’t really expecting much from a managed house but, was hoping for the best. Sat outside in the glorious sunshine and opposite Marble hill park my lunch arrived with a warm smile. Looking at my plates I thought “if this tastes half as good as it looks then I’ve lucked-out”. The lunch did not fail to deliver, cod was light and crispy not a hint of grease, the coronation sauce was a fantastic accompaniment and perfectly balanced. The fries, not to be left out, were elevated beautifully, light, not greasy with cheddar layers between a sandwich of fries. I asked who the chef is and thanked Bartosz personally. Apologies if I’ve butchered his name… all over, the Rising Sun deserves a visit, the staff work hard for you, they really invest in creating your best experience, it’s authentic… 5 stars

Love this local, especially since the refurbishment. Shame the wine is a bit pricey for us, but the beers are good. The staff are great, and Harvey gives a warm, personal welcome, by name, every time. Keep up the good work guys😊👍

I usually absolutely love this pub, have been a few times and the food and service is 10/10 most times. The two bartenders on today were absolutely incredible and lovely however there shouldn’t have only been two of them on. It was a quiz night and they were actively running around like headless chickens and thats not fair on them, they should have had an extra person on. I cannot fault them for how hard they tried, but when the busy was full inside and outside they struggled and service took a hit. Shout out to Ben for holding a fabulous quiz! And I hope next time the pub will think twice and put more staff on.

Order food by QR code or at the counter. Food and drinks will be served to your table. Nice and comfortable place. Out door seats with cushion. Good for family with kids as there is a Marble Hill Park just opposite the road. Off street parking or paid car park at the park. What a lovely pub restaurant in a sunny day!

It was our first visit since the renovation. All the staff were friendly and very attentive. We really liked the renovated interior. The atmosphere was spacious and airy. And I must say, last night I experienced the best fish and chips I have ever eaten in my life! The fish was cooked perfectly, the fries were fantastic, and the sauces were delicious! The portions were quite generous. We will definitely visit again soon to try their pizzas and other options on the menu.
