About This Pub
Oh, Retreat Adlington is one of those places that just feels like a hidden gem in Adlington, tucked away in what used to be a church, and it's got this lovely mix of spaciousness and cosiness that makes you want to linger. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really shines – people rave about the steaks cooked just right and those flavourful sauces that elevate everything, plus it's spot on for value, especially if you're popping in for a birthday or a casual catch-up. The service gets a big thumbs up too; it's quick and genuinely friendly, which always makes a meal more enjoyable. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few grumbles about the Sunday roasts not quite living up to expectations, with meat coming out overdone and a bit tough, even when folks specify how they like it. Still, with such high marks overall, it's worth giving it a try, but maybe steer clear of the roasts if you're after something foolproof. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, and I'd say it's one to recommend for its welcoming vibe and tasty grub, as long as you go in with realistic hopes.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think perfectly cooked steaks like the tomahawk and delicious options like pork belly and halloumi burgers, all with tasty sauces that really hit the mark.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff are quick, polite, and make you feel right at home, just like that friendly waitress Cindy who got rave reviews.
-
The atmosphere is a winner – it's a beautifully converted church that's spacious yet cosy, with heated booths perfect for a relaxed meal or even cocktails on a special night.
-
Great value for money; folks have said it's well worth the price, especially for celebrations like birthdays where you get a lot for your pound.
-
It's versatile for different occasions, from a light lunch to a proper dinner, and the overall vibe is just inviting and relaxing.
Cons
-
Some dishes might not always hit the spot, like the Sunday roast where the meat can be overcooked and chewy, even if you ask for it pink.
-
There could be inconsistencies in the cooking, as one experience left someone disappointed with grey beef and tough gammon, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.

Visited yesterday for Fathers Day and was quite disappointed with our experience.
The meat on the Sunday roast platter was over cooked, we were asked if we would like the beef pink or well-done, we said pink but it was grey. The gammon was also over cooked and chewy.
The “seasonal vegetables” consisted of just carrot and green beans. I would have expected more than this.
Nobody came over to check if everything was ok with the food.
When serving our roast, one of the waitresses leaned over our baby’s head with a plate with a jug of hot gravy on, we had to ask her to please not pass hot plates/food over the baby!
We were not asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu.
We then got the bill which was wrong as we had been overcharged, so had to get this rectified.
All in all not a great experience. The food was edible but we wouldn’t be in a hurry to visit again. The roast platter definitely looks better on the Facebook pictures! The staff were nice and polite but maybe just need some more training.
Absolutely loved it. Great food and great service.
Went for boyfriends birthday meal, tomahawk was cooked to perfection, pork belly and halloumi burger was also fantastic, the Port & stilton sauce was so nice too.
chose this place last minute for my boyfriends birthday meal with a few friends we loved the food and the price is worth it for what you get.
Randomly chose this restaurant as a last minute birthday celebration for a friend. Food was actually remarkable, very impressed for the price list. Atmosphere and interior design was very relaxing. Service was quick, customer service was great. Cindy, our waitress, was very polite and pleasant.
