About This Pub

You know, when I popped into Quod Restaurant & Bar in Oxford, it really felt like one of those places that gets it right for a proper meal and a few drinks. The food is spot on – we're talking fresh, generous portions of European classics that make every bite worthwhile, whether it's a comforting soup or a perfectly cooked steak. The service is just as good; the team are genuinely friendly and make you feel right at home, which always lifts the experience. That outdoor terrace is a real winner too, with its shaded spot giving off a Mediterranean vibe that's ideal for a sunny afternoon or evening. And don't get me started on the wine list – it's excellent and pairs beautifully with everything on offer. On the downside, it does tend to get a bit lively and noisy, especially if you're hoping for a quiet catch-up, and that 13.5% service charge can feel a step too far when you're tallying up. All things considered, it's a solid choice for anyone in Oxford looking for a good time, but maybe plan for it on a quieter night if you fancy a more relaxed vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh and generous portions that really hit the spot – think tasty European classics like tender lamb chops or fresh oysters that leave you wanting more.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  • The atmosphere is brilliant, with a vibrant indoor space, a cosy outdoor terrace that's perfect for sunny days, and even piano music on Sundays to add a lovely touch.
  • Fantastic wine list and cocktails that pair beautifully with the meals, making it a great spot for a relaxed drink or a full evening out.
  • Prime location right in the heart of Oxford's High Street, making it super convenient for a quick stop or after exploring the city.
Cons
  • It can get a bit noisy at times, especially indoors, which might spoil the mood if you're after a peaceful chat over dinner.
  • The 13.5% service charge feels a tad high for some, adding up more than expected on the bill.
  • With moderate prices, it might not be the most budget-friendly option for a casual night out, so it's worth keeping an eye on the costs.

Great indoor and outdoor space, with lovely set menu and a la carte choices. The outside terrace has shade - perfect setting imo. Service was good (13.5% service charge). Wine list was very good too. Overall a really nice place to have lunch and we will be back.

Very comfortable and professional restaurant with high standards and an interesting menu - a cosy place in a chilly night, although it can get a bit noisy. Portions are very generous and service is attentive - they know their customers and deliver. 13.5% service charge was higher than expected - still getting used to this in the UK.

We had an incredible lunch in Oxford today — everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was absolutely divine: we shared a beautifully prepared tartare, a comforting soup, tender lamb chops, and the fish catch of the day, which was fresh and full of flavor. What truly made the experience exceptional was our waitress, Brigitte. She was so helpful, kind, and attentive throughout. Her warm personality really stood out, and she even took the time to recommend some lovely spots to visit around Oxford. Exceptional service and outstanding food — we’ll definitely be coming back!

I really really like Quod, everything was top drawer, first of all our waitress was personable and made us feel extremely welcome. The food was absolutely amazing, I had a rump steak, with fries, my girlfriend had a rabbit and bacon roulade, we were both extremely happy, portion size was good. For dessert, I had the cheesecake and let me tell you, I am a cheesecake enthusiast, I am not overselling saying that it's the best I have ever had. It was luxurious, without being too sweet, the top of the cheesecake was a bit like a Crème Brûlée, my compliments to whomever made that. We had a window table, with a beautiful view of a church. I like Oxford a lot, I would like to visit Quod again, recommended.

Love this place, never had a bad meal here. Fresh oysters yum, the celeriac soup is my favourite, red mullet was lovely too. No room for dessert. Piano music on a Sunday evening enhances the lovely atmosphere. Staff always go the extra mile too. Definitely recommend.
