About This Pub

Ah, Queen's Mill Tearooms – it's one of those places that just feels like a hidden gem in Castleford, with its prime spot alongside the river Aire and those big picture windows letting in the most gorgeous views of the water and wildlife. I have to say, the homemade food and that special blend of freshly roasted coffee really hit the spot; it's clear they've put thought into making everything feel warm and inviting, especially if you're popping in with the dog after a stroll. The team there are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure you enjoy your visit. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard a few tales of waits that stretch on a bit, which could put a damper on things if you're nipping in for a quick bite. Prices can sting a little too, and while the portions are hearty, they might be more than you bargained for if you're after something light. All in all, it's a lovely choice for a relaxed afternoon, but I'd suggest going when you've got time to linger and maybe keeping an eye on the bill to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is absolutely stunning, right by the river Aire with panoramic views and outdoor seating – perfect for a relaxing catch-up with mates.
  • Staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They serve up high-quality homemade food and drinks, including freshly roasted coffee from their own blend – it's a real treat for coffee lovers.
  • It's super dog-friendly, ideal if you're out for a walk and fancy a break with your furry companion.
  • Ample free parking makes it easy to pop in without the hassle of finding a spot.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, so if you're in a rush, you might end up waiting longer than expected for your order.
  • Some items feel a tad overpriced, like tea and toast coming in at over £23 for a few – it adds up quickly.
  • Portions are on the generous side, which is great if you're starving, but might be overwhelming or wasteful for lighter eaters.
  • There have been a few gripes about orders not arriving together, like coffee showing up way before the food, which can spoil the experience.
  • The teapots are quite heavy when full, making them a bit tricky to handle and potentially risky if you're not careful.

Food is decent quality, portions are a bit on the large side for me but it’s ok to leave some. The staff are really nice but sometimes it takes a while for the orders to come out so make sure you’re not in a rush.

Coffee was good but arrived 15 minutes before the accompanying fruit toast. I had finished the coffee before it was even cooked. The staff argued that there were other orders ahead of me but my point of having toast and coffee together was dismissed. Next time I will have too remember to ask for my order to come together

Really lovely tearoom and great staff. The food is good but it is a little expensive.

Seemed a nice place to have a cuppa and a bit to eat. Seemed a bit overpriced at over £23 for tea and fruit toast for four. The tea pots were large and when full were heavy to pick up with one hand, risking burning yourself on the pot or directly from the hot tea. An accident waiting to happen. Which actually did happen when the waitress attempted to put one of the hot teapots down on the table, spilling hot tea on one of our party. Not a great experience.😣😡

I enjoyed a nice sausage sandwich for breakfast at the Tearooms whilst watching the water in the river flow by. Pleasant place for breakfast and a coffee; staff friendly.
