About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about Purple Olive in Ashton-under-Lyne – it's one of those places that really stands out for its Indian fare, and I've got to say, the food is a proper treat. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the curries and dishes are fresh as can be, packed with those rich, spicy flavours from ginger, garlic, and homemade masalas that leave you wanting more. It's not just about the taste; it's great value too, with affordable prices and even a cheeky 10% off for online orders, which makes it a winner for a mid-week meal or a takeaway night in. The atmosphere is spot on for a get-together, with a fully licensed bar and spaces for larger groups, perfect if you're planning a family do or just fancy a relaxed dinner. Most folks seem chuffed with the service, especially if you're a returning face, and it's earned a solid 4.6 rating from heaps of happy reviews. But, and I have to be straight here, it's not all smooth sailing – a few have mentioned getting a frosty reception as first-timers, with staff being a tad abrupt, particularly if you've got little ones in tow. Plus, when things get hectic, you might find yourself waiting a bit longer than you'd like, which can take the edge off an otherwise lovely evening. Overall, if you're up for some top-notch Indian food and don't mind overlooking the odd hiccup, it's well worth a visit – just pop in with an open mind and you'll likely have a grand time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, tasty Indian dishes with authentic spices and flavours that really hit the spot, made from in-house herbs and masalas.
  • It's great value for money, offering quality meals at affordable prices, plus a 10% discount on online collections which is a nice little perk.
  • The atmosphere is lovely, with a fully licensed bar and dedicated spaces for groups, making it ideal for family celebrations or a casual night out.
  • Service is generally friendly, especially if you're a regular, and they've got a solid reputation with most folks raving about their experiences.
Cons
  • Service can be inconsistent; some have reported a less than welcoming vibe for first-time visitors, with staff coming across as a bit rude at times.
  • Wait times can drag on when it gets busy, like for paying the bill, which might put a damper on the evening if you're in a rush.
  • It's primarily an Indian restaurant, so if you're after a traditional pub feel with pints and pub grub, it might not quite hit the mark, though they do have a bar.

I ordered food for delivery today, it's been a while but good food on the taste buds are best enjoyed after abstance. Good food, one of best restaurants in Ashton under lyne. Purple Olive best place to eat in quality food at affordable price. Not many good restaurants around, with compromise quality of price elsewhere. Food was delivered war ready to eat. Fast delivery than time estimated through the restaurants online order portal. No hidden charges upon checkout on the website, clear and concise breakdown of the meals and items ordered. Highly recommend. The driver was very friendly and cheerful and smiled whilst handy over the order. It's always warming when you order from Purple Olive and the driver shows gratitude. I also thank the driver and smiked back out of politeness. Can't wait to dine in as it has been a while. Purple Olive have a huge tree in the restaurant that gives off a nostalgic feeling. A relaxing place to eat at. Friends, family with or without kids. The atmosphere isn't overrated but rather calm simple and very welcoming and also a feeling of staying not rushing to leave. The staff are always very friendly and offer top notch customer services. The car park has space as well as free street parking always beware of the double yellow line on the roads.

We went to this restaurant for our son’s birthday. It seemed like they preferred their regular customers because the way they welcomed us, as first-time visitors, was not good at all. Since I have two small children, the waiters rudely warned us multiple times. They even reminded us that everything in the restaurant was very expensive and that we should be careful with our kids. This was extremely disappointing and disrespectful. We had a very stressful evening and couldn’t enjoy our child’s birthday because we had to make sure the kids didn’t move from their seats. I had to order a glass of water three times before finally receiving it on the third attempt. Overall, we felt like we had made a mistake by choosing this place, as the staff was not welcoming at all. Even if the food quality was good, we didn’t notice because we were not in a good mood. It was definitely our first and last visit to this restaurant.

Had my most recent visit for dinner, yesterday, since this is a favourite for me and the rest of the family. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, so we received our food in a definitely timely manner, and it was as delicious as usual. Service is also friendly, especially as they recognise us from prior visits. Very likely to visit again in the future.

Family favourite. Been here for various meals out and celebrations over the years. The last 2 years, we've had Christmas Day there and eaten their Christmas day curry. Can't fault it at all. Fabulous staff and food.

Honestly didn't know what to expect but for our first time it was lovely. From the decor to the food it was fantastic. Only slight down side as it got a bit buiser the wait to pay was a bit long. It is a great value for money and made for a fantastic evening.
