MUST Wine Bar, 3 George St, St Albans AL3 4ER

About This Pub

Ah, MUST Wine Bar in St Albans – it's one of those places that just warms you up from the moment you step in. I've got to say, the sheer variety of wines on offer is brilliant; with over 70 by the glass from all corners of the world, it's like a passport to new discoveries without breaking the bank. The staff really shine here – they're so approachable and clued up, always chatting about what might tickle your fancy based on your usual tipples, which makes you feel right at home. Whether it's a private tasting in their cosy lounges or joining in on a monthly event, it's all about that extra touch of class with food pairings that complement the wines perfectly. And let's not forget, it's accommodating for all sorts, even if you're popping in with family. On the flip side, though, you might find yourself wishing for a bit more detail on the wine lists, like the ages, as it's not always upfront, and the opening times can be a tad limited, so planning ahead is key. Overall, it's a solid choice for a mellow night out, and while it might not be the rowdiest spot, the positives far outweigh the minor niggles, leaving you with that satisfied glow after a great glass or two.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • They've got an incredible selection of over 70 wines by the glass from more than 20 countries, which is perfect for exploring new favourites without committing to a whole bottle.
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – knowledgeable, welcoming, and always ready with spot-on recommendations based on what you like, making every visit feel personal and enjoyable.
  • It's a great spot for wine tastings, with private lounges and events like world tours or introductory sessions that add a fun, educational twist to a night out.
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated, with delicious food pairings that really elevate the experience, and it's welcoming for special occasions or even if you're with little ones.
  • With a stellar 4.8 rating from plenty of happy visitors, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a memorable time, especially for wine enthusiasts.
Cons
  • The wine lists might not always include details like the age of the wines, which could leave you needing to ask for more info and might feel a bit frustrating if you're in a hurry.
  • Operating hours can vary and it's closed one day a week, so you'll want to check ahead to make sure it fits your plans, as evenings start a bit later.
  • While the overall vibe is fantastic, it might not suit everyone if you're after a more lively pub scene, as it's more focused on a peaceful, wine-centric experience.

Visited in May 2023. We visited MUST to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We do enjoy wine and charcuterie, which this place offered in abundance. The service was really relaxed (in a good way), polite and educational - the knowledge of the wines on offer was helpful. Great pairings were offered. The space is intimate, warm and inviting. It was very clean and comfortable. We sat right at the front looking over at the street and people gazing. We were given a complimentary glasses of Prosecco to celebrate our anniversary, which was a lovely touch. The platter was delicious and fresh. Would recommend this spot for a date night or cultured evening with friends.

A lovely place, and some great wines. Stopped by and sat outside, was perfect as the road was closed. Ordered two lovely glasses of wine, and happened to come across a great Malbec. One of the best I’ve tasted! To quote Arnie.. “I’ll be back”

Fab list 🍷!! Tried the Italian tasting of 3 wines Brunello di Montalcino 2015, Barolo 2017 and Amarone 2015. Not sure why they don't add the age of the wine on the list. I had to ask. But overall good quality!
