About This Pub
You know, chatting about the Pipe Major in Dagenham, it's got that warm, homely feel that's just right for a casual get-together or a family meal. They've built a solid reputation around their daily carvery, which folks rave about as being better than the usual chains – think juicy roasts and all the trimmings that hit the spot. The beer garden is another highlight; it's a lovely spot to unwind with a drink, especially when the weather's on your side, and with the Order and Pay option, you can stay put while they bring everything over. Plus, being so close to the tube station makes it dead easy to pop in after work or on a whim. On the flip side, it's a bit of a wait since they're closed for renovations at the moment, reopening on 21st June, and I've heard a few murmurs about food standards not being quite as top-notch as they used to be, with some waits for the carvery that can throw off your plans. Drinks might cost a little more than you'd hope, too, but the regular offers on food help soften the blow. All in all, with an average rating hovering around 4.1 from plenty of happy visitors, it's worth keeping an eye on – once it's back, I'm sure it'll be back to its best for a good night out.

We have been going here for a long time and have noticed a decline in the food standards but thought we would treat our little family. We ordered 2 meals off the menu and 2 carvery's. We waited for abit to get carvery so we would all eat together, yet when we went up the carvery was empty a cook was filling the potatoes and basically just ignored us so we went back to table for a few minutes when we came back only meat was beef when we asked for turkey we were told there is none and Yorkshires would be 30 mins. We went back to the bar the bar staff who are all lovely said that we should have been told there was no turkey and sorted us food off the menu but most of food was luke warm apart from the mac n cheese which was boiling (the only reason it's got a 1 food star) and to be honest by that point we had enough so just ate the safe stuff and left the chicken. Again the bar staff are always lovely and helpful but food wise it was not good.
Working down here in Dag and been coming here almost everyday after work, staff are amazing, food is nice and the ambient is also nice.
There’s always someone in there and it’s in a very nice position of the city.
Ps: the cheesy garlic bread are a beauty
Great carvery, better than other chain restaurants. Drinks can be expensive but regular food offers make up for it.
I am currently residing in the Travel Lodge, and was craving a proper roast dinner.
So after work I decided, (although I'm quite shy), I was gonna be brave and go here for a roast alone (partner was at work)
I walked in and was greeted by a very kind young lady who took my drink order at bar, and after saying I'd like a table for 1, guided me to a corner where I could eat without feeling I was somewhat being watched as I was alone.
I opted for the carvery, and wasn't disappointed. The food was hot, plentiful with unlimited roasties n veg.
A very pleasant experience, and one i will definitely be doing again.
The food is what gives this place the 4 stars. We are a family of 9 and ordered various things from the spicy chicken sandwich to the children's pasta to the steak & ale pie.
The menus you find on the table don't actually represent what you can order; the physical and online menus are different. We only found out you can order from the girls at the till when the app wouldn't work and we had to speak to them. No one welcomed or seated us as we went in so we didn't have any idea really what to do. Obviously this is a local place where the locals know what to do.
There were children running around loudly and with bicycles (inside) so the atmosphere was quite poor because nothing really was being done about it.
