About This Pub

Ah, the Pioneer Bar and Brasserie – it's one of those spots in Crosby that's quickly become a go-to for a solid meal and a good laugh with mates. From what I've gathered, the food is a real highlight; their Sunday roasts are bang on, with tender meats and those dreamy potatoes that keep people coming back. The staff can be absolute gems, all smiles and chatty in the best way, and the place itself is always clean and inviting, whether you're grabbing a seat inside or enjoying the outdoor area with a cocktail in hand. It's got that relaxed, community feel that's perfect for a casual night out. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – the new management has rubbed some the wrong way, with tales of unprofessional chats and smaller portions that don't quite satisfy. Plus, there have been a few slip-ups in communication, like messing up bookings, which might leave you scratching your head. Overall, though, if you're up for giving it a try, it's worth it for the highs, just go in with realistic expectations and maybe check things in advance to avoid any bumps.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is delicious, especially their Sunday roasts – I've heard they're some of the best around, with spot-on potatoes and flavours that really hit the mark.
  • The venue is always spotless and has a lovely atmosphere, both inside and out, with great outdoor seating for soaking up the sun.
  • They've got a cracking selection of cocktails and appetisers, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with friends.
Cons
  • There have been some communication mix-ups, like getting bookings wrong or not following up on emails, which can be a bit frustrating.
  • Under the new management, things feel a tad unprofessional at times, with staff sharing unnecessary details that don't sit right.
  • A few folks have mentioned that the portions are on the small side and the food isn't quite as good as it used to be, which is a shame.
  • Service can be inconsistent, leaving some visits feeling a bit underwhelming compared to the hype.

This is an absolute gem of a place! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious every single time, and the entire venue is spotless! The Pioneer has fast become one of our favourites in the area, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend visiting

I wrote to them to see if I could book a wedding reception They replied on Insta, mistaking a request for a 15:00hrs start, with 1500 people. When I phoned them, they said they would respond to my email, but then they didn't bother Awful service

New management are a far cry away from the original Pioneer. Staff took it upon themselves to tell us about the previous owners and debts owed which was very unprofessional. We have been advised that the same chef is still there but in my opinion the food is not as good as it was. Small portions,.mixed bag on quality. Just not the same vibe as the original bar. People may disagree but I've been going here from day 1 and I personally think it's lost all of its charm. Would be sad to see this close down but the last few times I l e popped innit has closed earlier because it is empty. Sad.

Just been for a Sunday roast, hands down one of the nicest Roast Dinners I've ever had, more veg would be my only ask, honestly they maybe the nicest roast potatoes I've ever had. Massive compliments to theChef 👩‍🍳 👨‍🍳. Me mum got the salt and pepper hallumi and really enjoyed it, she had to leave a bit cause she was quite full. Staff were all great and looked after us well. Lovely place to enjoy a cool drink and some food, served with a smile. A nice area inside but even nicer outside with high tables to enjoy your drink / food in the sun. They have a good selection of cocktails and appetisers.
