About This Pub

Ah, the Phoenix – it's one of those Bristol gems that just hits the spot every time. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place does a stellar job with their grub; think juicy burgers, loaded chips, and those legendary Sunday roasts that folks rave about, all made with locally sourced ingredients. The drinks menu is another highlight, packed with local favourites, spirits, and cocktails that you can jazz up with their signature twists, and don't forget the wallet-friendly deals like £12 for two cocktails or that burger meal for under a tenner – it's all about making your night out feel special without breaking the bank. The beer garden is a real treat, especially on a nice day, giving you that outdoor space to chat and unwind, and it's so welcoming for families and dogs alike, which adds to the laid-back charm. Being queer-owned, it has this inclusive edge that makes everyone feel right at ease. On the flip side, the hours can be a tad confusing with varying times listed, so it's worth planning ahead to avoid any disappointment, and those great deals are time-limited, meaning you might have to time your visit just right. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for good food, drinks, and company in the heart of Bristol – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positive vibes from the crowd really shine through.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is spot on – those fresh burgers and Sunday roasts are absolute winners, with massive portions that feel like great value for money.
  • It's super dog-friendly and family-friendly, making it a welcoming spot for everyone, including your furry mates, in a chilled-out atmosphere.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, from local brews and classic cocktails with a twist, plus loads of deals like happy hour and burger meals that keep things affordable.
  • The big beer garden is brilliant for soaking up the vibes on a sunny day, and the staff are genuinely lovely, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home.
  • As a queer-owned pub with a rich history since 1850, it has that warm, inclusive feel that makes it more than just a place to grab a pint.
Cons
  • The operating hours seem a bit muddled from what's listed, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit – double-check before heading over.
  • While the deals are fantastic, they're only available at specific times, so you might miss out if you're not there during happy hour or the evening specials.

We had our second Sunday lunch at the Phoenix today. As before, it was absolutely fantastic! The beef was beautifully cooked and the veg delicious. The yorkshire puds are seriously the best we've ever had. Such incredible value as the dinners are huge! The staff at the Phoenix are so lovely, professional and warm. The atmosphere is chilled. I cannot recommend highly enough. Huge compliments to the chef. We will be back. Thank you so much ❤️

Definitely highly recommend going on a Sunday for their roasts. Ordered the pork and hands down, one of my favourite roasts out there. The meat was tender, and their Yorkshire pudding plus gravy combo was heavenly. The atmosphere was decent the Sunday I went considering the weather, but was also there the Friday before and it was definitely more lively and fun. All and all, really great place to go for any occasions. Also, really love the interior decor. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Best chips in Bristol? What a fantastic place to visit, especially when out shopping in the centre of Bristol. Friendly staff, great decor, very welcoming and there's a good selection of craft beer for the real ale fan. The food menu has an excellent tapas menu and the main fare was superb. I devoured a burger and chips and without doubt it was the best I've had in a very long time, if not ever: The perfectly cooked burger was thick and tasty, with a dressing that complimented it impeccably. The chips took this gastronomic delight to another level. Triple cooked stubbies, crispy on the ends and with a perfectly fluffy inside. 100% perfection.
