About This Pub
Ah, Paysan in Chester – it's one of those spots that sounds like a proper treat based on the buzz around it. From the reviews, the wine list is a standout; they've got a huge range, and the staff are always up for chatting about what you'd fancy, making it feel personal and fun rather than overwhelming. The food's another winner – think simple yet scrumptious cheese boards and chicken dishes that come out quickly and don't break the bank, which is always a plus when you're out for a casual evening. The atmosphere comes across as relaxed and inviting, with a nice crowd that adds to the enjoyment without it feeling too hectic. On the flip side, it's a bit gutting that they're closed at the moment for some necessary fixes, so you might need to bide your time before popping in. And that no-bookings policy could catch you out if you're trying to organise a group get-together. All in all, once it's back up and running, it'd be a solid choice for anyone after a good wine-focused night out in Chester – just keep an eye on their updates to avoid disappointment!

It has a really welcoming atmosphere and a great vibe, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates over a drink.
Cons
-
It's currently closed for essential structural repairs, which means you'll have to hold off on a visit for now – a real shame as it's highly rated.

They don't take bookings or answer the phone, so it can be a bit tricky to plan ahead or sort out any queries in advance.

We visited for my dad’s birthday as this is one of his favourite bars in Chester. We shared some chips & two cheese boards. Amazing value for money and came super quick! I have a nut allergy and staff were very accommodating and made it easy for me to eat here! Really like how it’s a wine bar downstairs and the beers out upstairs, brings a very cool & nice atmosphere to Chester !
Popped in for food and to try the large wine selection. Very friendly barman, asked about what we liked in a wine, gave us a great recommendation and then ordered tje half chicken with homemade chips and aioli, really good.. Will be back
I’m in here at least twice a week and the team never disappoint. Always a nice crowd and a nice vibe. The wine is priced really really well, so you never feel like you’re getting stung.
The Veddett lager is always sub- zero also, perfect. Also Filip is the man.
Amazing find! Paysan is the bottom half of the establishment with a greater focus on wine with upstairs focusing beer! Both sell the same foods! Upstairs is the Cavern of the Curious Gnome. Food was incredible and really tasty. Simple but really good and prices were very reasonable as well! Highly recommend!
Absolutely fabulous. Atmosphere great, staff equally good, service quick and efficient despite being really busy. Favourite place in Chester. Food is lovely and so vast a range of wines, which they are happy to help with finding the one to your taste, thank you all at Paysan.
