About This Pub
Ah, The Church Chester – what a gem tucked away in Chester! I have to say, it's one of those places that really captures the imagination with its stunning architecture and original features, making you feel like you're in a proper historic venue while sipping on fantastic cocktails. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and ready to help, and the food doesn't disappoint either – think hearty portions at fair prices, with loads of tempting offers like happy hours and party deals that keep things affordable for a group outing. The atmosphere picks up nicely with DJs on the weekends, turning it into a buzzing spot for a dance or a chat on the terrace when the sun's out. But, and I say this honestly as a mate would, it's not all perfect; you might end up outside on the terrace when you'd rather be admiring the inside, which can feel a bit off if that's what drew you in. Plus, it does get crowded at times, and those varying opening hours might catch you out on a quiet evening. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a fun night – just go in with realistic expectations, and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic building is absolutely stunning, with original features that give it a unique and charming atmosphere – it's like stepping back in time while enjoying a modern twist.
-
The staff are really friendly and attentive, always on hand to make sure you're having a good time, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal.
-
The food is spot on, with generous portions and reasonable prices, plus plenty of promotions like happy hours and party menus that make it great value for a night out.
-
They've got a lively vibe with DJs and live music on Fridays and Saturdays, perfect for dancing the night away, and the outdoor terrace is a lovely spot for a relaxed drink when the weather's nice.
-
The cocktail selection is top-notch, and options like VIP booths and private party rooms without any hire fees add a fun, exclusive feel without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
You might find yourself directed to the outdoor terrace more often than you'd like, which can feel a bit disappointing if you're keen to soak in the beautiful church interior.
-
It can get quite busy on certain nights, making it a tad overwhelming, and the table time limit of two hours might rush your evening if you're in the mood for a long catch-up.
-
Opening hours vary by season, so it might close earlier than expected on some days, which could cut short your plans, especially during quieter periods.

Surely the attraction about going to a bar that was previously a church is being able to sit in the bar and take in the church surroundings and the beautiful building? No. Went in twice on a Sunday and was directed to the outdoor terrace both times. Strange.
Nice find, tucked away up a side street, good ambience friendly and attentive staff. Terrace outside bar. Good food at reasonable prices. Various packages and promotions
Attended for our works Christmas party this year after popping in last year for a few drinks previously. The seating space was great and the food was lovely (large portions sizes).
The music was great all night and it was overly busy, whether that was due to it being a Friday night rather than a Saturday. This meant we could easily go to the bar or have a dance without having to push through people.
The only downside which dropped it a star was the pudding with our food, I ordered an Eton mess and would not recommend (a lot of us struggled to eat it) it was pure cream and strawberry sauce pretty much making it far too sweet and sickly, needed more meringue etc adding to it to break it up abit
Hidden gem. Blink and you’ll miss it kind of place but definitely one to watch out for next time we come here. Staff downstairs and upstairs made sure to recommend ordering through the app to take advantage of the discount code saving. We ordered the platter. Steak was beautifully cooked. Burgers were juicy and seasoned nicely. We can’t understand why the place isn’t more crowded. Thank you to the staff for making us so welcome.
Went here Christmas eve, place is amazing inside, great architecture and kept all original features with a modern twist, gorgeous food and the best cocktails. Shut early as it was Xmas eve, but can imagine it being a buzz at a normal weekend.
