About This Pub
You know, when I think about the Park Head Hotel, it's got this lovely mix of old-school charm and fresh updates that really make it stand out in Bishop Auckland. The staff are just brilliant – they're so welcoming and eager to help, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for a full meal. The food's a proper treat too; they use local ingredients from places like Auckland Castle's walled garden, and it's all served up with a creative twist that keeps things exciting without going over the top. If you're after a comfortable stay, the rooms are spot on, offering great value and a cosy atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. And that courtyard? It's an absolute gem on a sunny day, perfect for chatting over drinks with mates. But, to be fair, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard a few tales of service being a bit hit-and-miss at times, like when no one's around to greet you right off the bat, which can leave you feeling a tad overlooked. Still, with such a strong overall feel and those high marks from folks who've been, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep in mind it might have the odd off moment like any good pub does.

Recently renovated to a good standard, the sun was shining when I visited and the open courtyard layout outside of the accommodation was brilliant.
There's a well stocked bar and dining area serving delicious food that seemed to be in great demand.
Lovely clean hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. I spent two nights there and it was excellent value for money. I would definitely use it again. The room was really nice and comfortable, bar was reasonably priced and the breakfast was good too 🙂🙂
Booked a meal for 5 after the 'All Change' show. Arrived later than expected, but we received a warm welcome on arrival and had excellent service all night with all staff going above and beyond to serve us. The food was impeccable. Hot, a mixture of tastes, textures, and colour beautifully presented. Menu was varied and interesting and covered gluten-free vegetarian needs easily, but including a delicious selection of meat and fish dishes. Certainly encouraged a motivation to return. Desserts had the same attention to detail and unique and varied flavours. All in all a very satisfactory and most enjoyable experience had by us all. Really lovely setting, inside and out! Will definitely return.
I stayed here recently for the first time in years. The place has been beautifully renovated and the rooms are lovely. For the price, you won’t find better. Staff were very accommodating and arranged ground floor rooms and much it’s sandwiches when we didn’t want full meals. All in all a great experience.
This was our first visit. I'm a Kynren volunteer since the very first day and excited to taste and eat food home grown by the Auckland Project. We came for Sunday dinner last week. Booked a table for 17:00. No one to greet us, restaurant void of any staff, so after a while of shouting "hello"my husband ventured to the kitchen to find 4 staff chatting. Two girls came out. One had a look. for our reservation. Said we are table 13 but had no idea where the table was. So we deducted from finding 11 and 15 that it was somewhere with no number. We waited for what seemed ages to be brought a menu She walked past three times telling us she would come straight away.At this point I was ready to walk out.
I was brought the wrong drink and it took ages to bring the correct drink.
The food itself was almost nice, but the chicken breast was a dry lump and she could only bring us extra pork gravy for my chicken.
The service was well under what we expected for a restaurant with a supposedly good reputation for being average, which is the reason why we went.
I expect more from the Auckland Project. Such a shame.............
