About This Pub
Ah, the Panton Arms – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a good British local, tucked away in central Cambridge with a vibe that's just right for unwinding with mates. I have to say, what stands out most is their fantastic array of drinks; whether you're after a pint of quality ale like Greene King IPA or something from their rotating guests, there's plenty to choose from, and they've even got options for those watching their gluten or alcohol intake. The live music, especially the Irish Folk Jam on Thursdays, adds a brilliant touch of entertainment that gets everyone joining in – it's those kinds of evenings that make you linger a bit longer. Plus, being dog-friendly is a real winner; it's nice to see a place that welcomes your four-legged friends with treats and all. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the toilets not being up to scratch, and the food, while decent on Thursdays and Fridays, doesn't always hit the mark – it's a bit limited and can seem overpriced for pub fare. Oh, and watch out for those sticky tables; it's a minor niggle, but it does detract from the charm. All in all, if you're after a solid spot for drinks and a chat, it's worth a visit, but maybe plan around the busier times and keep expectations realistic for the eats. It's got that honest pub spirit that keeps people coming back, warts and all!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of beers and drinks is absolutely brilliant – they've got everything from cask ales like St Austell's Tribute to a great range of guest ales, plus options for gluten-free and alcohol-free brews, which is spot on for all tastes.
-
It's a proper dog-friendly spot, with water and treats for your furry friends, making it a welcoming place if you're out with the family or just popping in with your pooch.
-
The atmosphere is lovely and lively, especially with events like the weekly Irish Folk Jam sessions – it's a real treat for music lovers and adds to that classic pub vibe.
-
They serve up some solid pub grub on Thursdays and Fridays, with a menu that's got comforting classics, and the courtyard garden is a nice touch for enjoying a drink outside when the weather's playing ball.
-
It's in a central location in Cambridge, making it easy to drop by, and the overall rating of 4.3 shows it's a favourite for many.
Cons
-
The toilets have been described as a bit grim in some reviews, which isn't ideal when you're settling in for the evening.
-
Food options are a tad limited and can feel pricey for what you get, so it might not be the best spot if you're after a full meal rather than just a quick bite.
-
Tables can be sticky at times, which takes away from the cosy feel a little – it's those small things that can make or break a visit.
-
Service isn't always spot-on; for instance, they might not have coffee or desserts on offer after your meal, which could leave you wanting more.
-
It gets packed during peak times, so you'll probably need to book ahead to avoid disappointment, especially if you're keen on grabbing a table.

Came here because I needed a fix of Celtic music and happened to be in the neighborhood on Thursday, when there’s a session at Panton Arms. I was so pleased by the service, food, and most of all the music.
The best lively pub in town. Live music was great and the service was awesyone. This is a classic pub with some (very few) food options and sticky tables.

Very friendly people and a cozy place. Outdoor seating is available where you can take your beer with you for fresh air/smoke/etc even if you are seated inside. Burger was fine. They have a variety of beers which I liked. Food options were a bit pricey for me though…
Nice food and bar staff. Toilets are manky and they can’t manage to serve coffee or deserts after your meal!
Nice pub a short walk from the city center. We went on a Saturday lunchtime in January and it was very quiet, but i can imagine the summer would be busy as it has an outside seating area. The bar menu was good, with soup of the day and classics like fish finger bap! We did have to send our soup back as it was a little cold, but the staff were friendly and accommodating. Would recommend.
