About This Pub
Ah, The Grain & Hop Store in Cambridge – it's one of those pubs that just makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile; they're chatty, helpful, and know their stuff when it comes to recommending a craft beer or cocktail, which always adds to the enjoyment. The atmosphere is spot on too – whether you're settling in for a chilled afternoon with a burger and a pint, or getting stuck into the live sports action with friends, there's a real sense of community here. They've got all the perks like pool tables, shuffleboard, and even quiz nights to keep things lively, and it's great that it's so family and dog-friendly, with proper facilities for everyone. On the flip side, though, if you've been to other Greene King spots, you might notice the food doesn't stray too far from the usual – think solid but not standout Sunday roasts – and it can get a bit heaving on busier evenings, which might not suit if you're after a peaceful chat. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time in Cambridge, with enough positives to overlook the minor niggles, so I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone looking for a reliable spot to relax and have a laugh.

-
Family-friendly vibes with space for little ones to roam, plus it's dog-friendly and has disabled facilities, so it's inclusive for everyone.
-
A solid selection of craft beers and cocktails, along with nice outdoor seating and views, making it a lovely spot to enjoy a drink outside.
Cons
-
The food can feel a bit uniform if you're familiar with other Greene King pubs, as some dishes like the Sunday roast might not stand out as unique.
-
It can get quite busy, especially during events or peak times, which might make it a tad noisy if you're after a quiet catch-up.
-
Opening hours vary a bit, and while it's generally open late on weekends, you might need to plan around the serving times for food.

Wonderful pub. Staff are kind, caring, helpful, attentive and knowledgeable about their beers/spirits! Definitely come here if you want somewhere with a great atmosphere to chill - whether it be for a drink, food, or both!
Only ever been here for a late afternoon bite to eat and drink. Firstly they do 0% Guinness ✅
Relaxed atmosphere that has a student vibe. Pool tables down stairs and really friendly staff. We tend to sit up stairs where our toddler will have a run around and it’s generally quieter that suits us.
Food is really good. I recently had the steak pie which was one of the best I’ve had.
Greene King Pub
Trying to write reviews for all of the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this restaurant.
I thought this is my 4th Greene King pub review.
I found that the sunday roast of Greene King pubs have the very similar potatoes and meat. Probably everything is from the same supplier.
Didn't expect the steak sandwich was not hot. I had ordered a similar sandwich from other (non Greene King) pub before, it was a toasted sandwich.
I should have asked if it's hot or cold before making this order. My bad.
But the sandwich tasted nice. With a generous amount of fillings and sides for a reasonable price. But personally I prefer hot food for such a cold day.
The Sunday roast was very similar to other Greene King pub. Relieved that the beef tasted okay, without strange taste or smell. The vegetables were not overcooked either.
The pub locates at the quiet side of Cambridge town centre. It's easily being overlooked.
So I think it is a good place for private parties. Clean and open restaurant with 2 TVs downstairs.
Lovely big building set over 2 floors with lots going on. The burgers were fab, a few good craft beers on tap. There are some good views over the park at the rear of the building and a nice seating area at the front. Staff friendly and helpful. I was in here 5 pm on a Saturday and the place was rocking and quite loud, but in a nice way, people were having fun and playing pool & games. They have live music on upstairs
A great time here. Shuffleboard was £5 but this was during the day so might be more at night but we played for about an hour with a couple of drinks. Really friendly staff and we noticed they do quiz nights and other theme nights. Really nice place, one of my favourite pubs in Cambridge. We didn't eat but the food we did see looked nice. Decent pint of guiness too. We will definitely be returning!
